Portrait study 41

in Sketchbook4 years ago

Hello everyone! I hope you are doing well. I'm back to share with you more of my work, this time I bring you one of my drawings already in full color, and I'll tell you a little bit about the process I use to color my drawings by hand digitally.

The reference image I have taken from the Pinterest page, a huge source of inspiration and references for various creative themes. I like the idea of using faces from the internet for portrait studies, as it is very easy and fast. I've been working with portraiture all this year, so there is little time left for this series to be finished. Then I will start working on subjects with a little more content.

The technique I have used is mixed media, the drawing in grayscale is done by hand, once finished I scanned it in a printer scanner at a resolution of 300 dpi. Afterwards it has been colored in Photoshop.

I could divide the coloring process in three main stages, in the first one I focus on painting a first layer in all the respective areas of the drawing in a color that will help me to define the lights later, I also isolate the background with a light gray to give a little depth to the illustration in general. Then in the second stage I begin to pass a darker layer of the tones used to place the general shadows and from there with the eraser I remove color in the areas where there is more incidence of light. In the last stage I give more detail to areas such as the eyes, the lips, the shine of the hair, and I retouch any detail that I have overlooked in the previous stages. As you can see it is a quite simple method where you work as in many other methods from the general to the particular so that the image becomes more and more coherent.
