Hi all, today I would like to share a pen drawing I did fairly recently which was inspired from a photo of an old woman outdoors enjoying herself. There is a lot of personality and happiness in her face that I wanted to capture in my drawing.
I started of with a very rough sketch placing down the darker tones in the piece. They are usually around the eyes, under the nose & chin as a sun above someone's head would cast shadows in those areas.
I then used a darker pen to further define the darkest tones.
I start to use pencil to create the lighter tones in this piece. I wanted the drawing to have a lot of energy and be very expressive so I drew the pencil and pen marks fast while also maintaining relative accuracy.

Excellent sketch art showing slightly tired eyes from age, plenty of wrinkles being weathered and smiling. Smile of happiness and contentment, a hard life but happy with accomplishment.
