Muchos hemos escuchado el mito de Medusa y cómo ésta convertía en piedra a quienes la veían a los ojo, decidí hacer una pintura referente a ella, es mi primer dibujo con acuarelas y no sabía muy bien lo que hacía pero al final me gustó muchísimo el resultado.
Many of us have heard the myth of Medusa and how she turned those who saw her in the eye into stone, I decided to make a painting referring to her, it is my first drawing with watercolors and I did not know very well what I was doing but in the end I really liked the result.

Medusa es un nombre griego que significa “guardiana o protectora”. En general en la mitología era un monstruo ctónico femenino que convertía en piedra a aquellos que la miraban fijamente a los ojos. Fue decapitada por Perseo, quien después usó su cabeza como arma hasta que se la dio a la diosa Atenea para que la pusiera en su escudo, la égida.
Medusa is a Greek name meaning "guardian or protector." In general, in mythology, she was a female chthonic monster that turned those who looked into her eyes to stone. She was beheaded by Perseus, who later used her head as a weapon until he gave it to the goddess Athena to put on her shield, the aegis.
Hay versiones de este mito que colocan a Medusa como un monstruo que sedujo a Poseidón y por eso fue desterrada. Para otra versión era una protectora del templo de Atenea que a manera de provocación sedujo a Poseidón queriendo demostrar que ella tenía mayor importancia, belleza e inteligencia que la propia diosa; ante esta situación Atenea responde indignada por la profanación de su templo y la osadía de Medusa, por lo que esta última es desterrada, y al saber que está embarazada la manda matar para dar punto final a su desafío. Cuando Perseo le corta la cabeza surgen sus dos hijos y de la sangre derramada se crearon los escorpiones y las serpientes que viven en el desierto.
There are versions of this myth that place Medusa as a monster that seduced Poseidon and that is why she was banished. In another version, she was a protector of the temple of Athena who, as a provocation, seduced Poseidon, wanting to demonstrate that she was of greater importance, beauty, and intelligence than the goddess herself; Faced with this situation, Athena responds indignantly at the desecration of her temple and the audacity of Medusa, for which the latter is banished, and knowing that she is pregnant, she orders her killed to put an end to her challenge. When Perseus cuts off his head, his two sons emerge and from the spilled blood the scorpions and serpents that live in the desert were created.

Fué algo rápido porque ya tenía la idea en mente, posicioné las serpientes de una forma que se viera como un moño alto con algunos mechones sobre saliendo
It was quick because I already had the idea in mind, I positioned the snakes in a way that looked like a high bun with some strands sticking out.

Piel/Skin
Comencé a darle forma a la piel y poner las sombras, intenté hacer algo decente, todavía estoy practicando y entendiendo esto del sombreado
I started to shape the skin and put the shadows, I tried to do something decent, I'm still practicing and understanding this shading thing
Rostro/face
Luego seguí con los ojos, cejas, nariz y boca
Then I continued with the eyes, eyebrows, nose and mouth
Proceso de las serpientes o cabello/Process of the snakes or hair
Le eche dos capas de pintura más para oscurecer las serpientes
I put two more coats of paint on it to darken the snakes
Últimos detalles/Last details
Con un lapicero verde marqué más las escamas de la serpiente, con un lapicero negro retoque los bordes y en la segunda foto resalté más la parte inferior de la serpiente.
With a green pen I marked more the scales of the snake, with a black pen I touched up the edges and in the second photo I highlighted the lower part of the snake more.

Con un lapicero verde marqué más las escamas de la serpiente, con un lapicero negro retoque los bordes y en la segunda foto resalté más la parte inferior de la serpiente.
