Today I want to share with you a practice of lights and shadows that I did a few months ago, when I did this practice I still didn't have my drawing pencils, but as I usually say, the materials don't make the artist, so with only one pencil I decided to practice.
El dia de hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una práctica de luces y sombras que hice hace unos meses atras, cuando hice esta práctica aun no tenia mis lápices de dibujo, pero como suelo decir, los materiales no hacen al artista, así que con un solo lápiz me propuse a practicar.
I used to get very frustrated when making a drawing because I didn't know how to make them look realistic, my drawings used to be quite flat, so to speak, and that was because I had no knowledge of light and shadows.
Antes al hacer un dibujo me frustraba mucho por que no sabia como hacer que se vieran un poco realistas, mis dibujos solian ser bastante planos, por así decirlo, y eso se debía a que no tenia conocimiento acerca de la luces y las sombras.
Light and shadow are super fundamental elements to give depth, volume and realism to any drawing, no matter if we have the best colors or all the drawing pencils, with just a pencil you can make a pretty good and realistic drawing if you have knowledge of these two elements.
La luz y la sombra son elementos super fundamentales para dar profundidad, volumen y realismo a cualquier dibujo, sin importar si tenemos los mejores colores o todos los lápices de dibujo, con tan solo un lápiz se puede hacer un dibujo bastante bueno y realista si se tiene conocimiento de estos dos elementos.
For this practice I decided to make the typical sphere or crystal ball, but without further ado I leave you with the procedure.
Para esta práctica decidí hacer la típica esfera o bola de cristal, pero sin mas preámbulo los dejo con el procedimiento.
🌟Paso a paso🌟
The first thing I did was to tone the paper with the graphite, the expert artists call it graffiti powder and they get it when they sharpen their pencils, they even keep it in a container, I have not really given myself the task of collecting graphite powder (I have to do it) but what I did was to sharpen my pencil at that moment and use the powder released by the graphite to tone the sheet by spreading it with my fingers.
Lo primero que hice fue darle tono al papel con el grafito, los artistas expertos le llaman polvo de grafitto y lo obtienen cuando le sacan punta a sus lápices, incluso lo guardan en algun recipiente, yo la verdad no me he dado a la tarea de recolectar polvo de grafito (tengo que hacerlo) pero lo que hice fue sacarle punta a mi lápiz en ese momento y usar el polvo que solto el grafito para darle tono a la hoja esparciendolo con mis dedos.
Then with the help of a lid I traced a circle on the sheet. I could also do it with a compass, but I don't have one so I have to improvise, you know, the materials don't make the artist! 👍🏻
Luego con la ayuda de una tapa traze un círculo en la hoja. También podria hacerlo con un compás, pero no tengo así que toca improvisar, ya saben, los materiales no hacen al artista! 👍🏻
Then I began to mark where the shadows and lights would go and even the space where the reflection of a window would be seen.
Luego comence a marcar donde iban a ir las sombras y las luces e incluso el espacio donde se vera el reflejo de una ventana.
And little by little I darkened the shadow areas and with the help of an eraser I gave more light to the illuminated areas.
Y poco a poco fuí oscureciendo más las zonas de sombra y con la ayuda de un borrador fuí dando más luz a las zonas iluminadas.
And this was the result.
Y este fue él resultado.
I am almost never satisfied with the result of my drawings in this stage of learning, but I admit that for being the first time that I practice lights and shadows I am pretty good.
Yo casi nunca quedo conforme que el resultado de mis dibujos en esta etapa de aprendizaje, pero admito que para ser la primera vez que práctico luces y sombras me quedo bastante bien.
Something I understood is that to draw I must not only practice but also inform myself, read about the theory of drawing and I had no idea that the reason why the drawings are so realistic is because of the magic of light and shadows.
Algo que entendí es que para dibujar no solo debo practicar si no también informarme, leer sobre la teoría del dibujo y es que yo no tenía ni idea de que la razón por la que los dibujos quedan tan realistas es por la magia de la luz y las sombras.
While practicing is extremely important, if I practice knowing the theory I feel that I advance much more because I have a base of how to practice correctly and what to practice concretely, instead of doing it blindly, so to speak, because I may be focusing on practicing something that is not going to give me the result I want simply because I am practicing the wrong technique or the wrong step.
Si bien prácticar es algo de suma importancia, sí práctico sabiando la teoría siento que avanzo mucho más ya que tengo una base de como practicar correctamente y qué prácticar de forma concreta, en vez de hacerlo a ciegas, por así decirlo porque puedo estar enfocándome en prácticar algo que no me va a dar el resultado que quiero simplemente por estar practicando la técnica o el paso equivocado.
The funniest thing is that I thought that the problem was that I had only one pencil and I always told myself "it doesn't look good because I need drawing pencils" "I need a darker tone pencil" it was not true and in this practice I could prove it to myself because with only one pencil, a 2HB by the way, I managed to make a good drawing applying the technique of lights and shadows to create a semi-realistic effect.
Lo mas chistoso es que yo pensaba que el problema era que yo tenia solo un lápiz y siempre me decía "no me queda bien porque necesito lapices de dibujo" "necesito un lápiz de tono mas oscuro" no era cierto y en esta práctica pude demostrarmelo a mi misma ya que con un solo lápiz, un 2HB por cierto, logre hacer un buen dibujo aplicando la tecnica de luces y sombras para crear un efecto semi realista.
Since then that phrase that I hear so much from other artists and that I love The materials do not make the artist began to have more sense and meaning for me, that does not mean that I will not strive to have better materials every day, but I know that even without them I can achieve a good result. 🥰
Desde entonces esa frase que tanto escucho de otros artistas y que me encanta Los materiales no hacen al artista comenzó a tener mas sentido y significado para mí, eso no quiere decir que no me voy a esforzar por tener mejores materiales cada día, pero ya sé que aun sin ellos puedo lograr un buen resultado. 🥰
