Aurelio. Creating a character

Creating a character for a short story is much more than just drawing a picture. You have to establish their personality from the beginning, which in turn should be based on their experiences and past, with a strong dose of their current environment. I'm going to use this character later in a micro-story about reincarnation and science fiction. But this time I'm only going to focus on the character's first sketch...

The process

Vela 1.jpg

First I made the sketch with a pencil and then I started the first touch-ups with yellow.

I always like to start with the lightest color because at this point I haven't yet decided what colors I'm going to use for the background.

The second color would be blue, but since it would mix with the first layer of yellow anyway, this time I've decided to use green.

Now it's the turn of the colors red and orange to begin shaping this candle

When I applied the black background, I ended up washing away the colors because of the enormous amount of water I used. But on the other hand, I achieved a great variety of textures, and I was able to recover some tones from the photographs I'd taken.

I hope you enjoy this creative process. Greetings to all.
