The flying blue bird (oil on paper)

in Sketchbook5 months ago

An happy Sunday to you all!
Have you ever heard of the "giorni della merla" (it means "female blackbird days") ? Well, here in Italy we use to call the 29, 30 and 31 January the days of the female blackbird. This is because, in the old time, people thought those days were the coldest days of the year. There are different stories in the italian folklore about it and the most part of them came from the miths of Persephone and Demeter (you can read more about it here).

The folklore says that during those 3 days, the January (usually represented in form of a mountain or an old figure), unleashes her wrath on the blackbird (poor blackbird!) with rain, snow and a cold cold wind.
Just to know, now a warm sun is shing on the sky here! ^_^
Today I decided to paint another flying bird, but not a blackbird, as you can see in the following pics:

It's a flying blue bird with a tiny scene about ome on the body. To paint it I used oil colors in tubes and oil pastels too.
It's an oil painting on 200 gsm paper in A4 size and, like I use to do, I took some pics while I was painted it so you can see the process too:
