Years ago, one of the things I used to do in my free time was to draw. At that time I listened a lot to The Beatles, one of my all-time favorite bands, and that's why I dared to make a portrait of one of them in pencil.
Hace años, una de las cosas que hacía en mi tiempo libre era dibujar. En esa época escuchaba mucho a Los Beatles, uno de mis grupos favoritos por siempre, y por eso me atreví a hacer un retrato de uno de ellos a lápiz.
As you can see, the chosen one was Paul McCartney, I looked for a picture of him that appeared in a magazine, he was very young there, and I got down to work. The materials I used were few: a white sheet of paper, a graphite pencil and an eraser.
Como ven, el elegido fue Paul McCartney, busqué una foto de él que aparecía en una revista, era muy joven allí, y me puse manos a la obra. Los materiales que usé fueron pocos: una hoja blanca, un lápiz de grafito y un borrador.
I can't show the process because when I did it I didn't record it in photos, but I can mention the step by step I follow when I do portraits of people. First I make a soft stroke with the shape of the face, then I draw the hair and then I make the eyes, the nose, the mouth, the neck and the shoulders.
No puedo mostrar el proceso porque cuando lo hice no lo registré en fotos, pero sí puedo mencionar el paso a paso que sigo cuando hago retratos de personas. Primero hago un trazo suave con la forma del rostro, luego dibujo el cabello y después voy haciendo los ojos, la nariz, la boca, el cuello y los hombros.
To finish I make the retouches, like the shadows that the face has in different parts, details in the clothes or the hair, etc. I must say that I was not very satisfied with my version of Paul McCartney 😄, what do you think? I think the face lacked expressivity, I didn't manage to capture his essence, maybe I should have chosen another photo to base it on, I don't know...
Para finalizar hago los retoques, como las sombras que tiene el rostro en diferentes partes, detalles en la ropa o el cabello, etc. Debo decir que no quedé muy satisfecha con mi versión de Paul McCartney 😄, ¿ustedes qué opinan? Creo que le faltó expresividad al rostro, no logré capturar su esencia, quizás debí escoger otra foto en la que basarme, no lo sé...
Anyway, I wanted to share this portrait here as a way of preserving it, so if it gets damaged or I lose it, I will always have it on my blog, because although I consider that it didn't look quite right, it is part of my small portfolio of drawings.
De todos modos, quise compartir este retrato aquí como una manera de preservarlo, así, si se llega a dañar o lo pierdo, lo tendré siempre en mi blog, porque aunque considero que no me quedó del todo bien, forma parte de mi pequeño portafolio de dibujos.
