RE: Forking my thoughts

in OCD5 years ago

I think the community feature is showing people that there are rules, and that people can have a say in what rules they want to follow. If a community wants to be a family friendly place, and have a rule about no foul/objectionable language in the post then if an individual wishes to participate in that community they need to observe the rules set for that community's standards. It doe not prevent them from posting their non-family friendly post elsewhere on the chain, just in that community.

The community is going to have to stand up for any rules they make, allowing exceptions for one individual will undermine the integrity of that community. In one respect communities are miniature internal soft forks, their code is written in the rules created by the person/people creating the community.

Steem Block Chain was just beginning to work as that decentralized hub for the communities, SMT's are/were in test mode prior to the current crisis. We (SBC), were well on the path to what I feel was a bright future, we have hit cusp moment in the life of Steem Block Chain, there is not one path one fork we can chose from but several for now dependent on what actions others take. Will we be branching to another tree of life, will we continue to climb the one we are on, will we fall to the ground only to grow our new tree of life, will we crawl downward, and find a new point to branch off from.

The choice may seem as if it is not ours to make, that these are matters for people with more power, but our choices do matter, we do make a difference. This is not one wealthy person fighting another wealthy person for their piece of the pie, if the Steem Block Chain social outlet was easy to duplicate, there would be more choice. The fight may seem over tokens and conversion and wealth creation and growth for the larger accounts, but that growth is dependent on the boots on the ground, on the creators and the users.

What ever happens, things will not go back to the way they were, the people are learning,we are learning to trust, and to cooperate, and learning what it is we want from Steem Block Chain, is it only wealth creation, or is it something more. If a fork is in the future, (which I think is a very real possibility), then a fork we will have, hopefully it will be a fork that leads to growth.

Yep, which is why the proposals from JS for the Steem layer are nonsense

That is an interesting way to look at it :)

Yes we do, in many ways and we are the ones that are valuable long-term here, for price also.

So much going on, so much to do....
