Hello everybody!

Today I want to announce an initiative linked to an experience in my past. A few years ago I wrote a novel which I published as an independent author. Simply, a novel 130-150 pages about long, set in a location not too far from where I live, here in Tuscany.

I published the novel on Amazon in 2013 and over the last year, I have reviewed the proofs. I reread everything and decided to take a new path: I completed proofreading and a lightening of the text, with the aim of publishing a new definitive version on Amazon. The approximate release date is on Monday 21st March 2022.

However, given the experience that I have been carrying out here on the Hive blockchain for some years, I have decided that I will create a list of posts that will contain, as a whole, the entire novel. Each week I'll publish a different chapter in sequential order, covering the entire novel in about 6 months.

There is, however, a flaw. At the moment, the novel will be published only in Italian language, both on Amazon and for the episodes here on Hive. However, I have planned to start a new project, with which I would like to make the story available in English as well. At the moment, I will not reveal anything else, I will talk about it in the next weeks. In the meantime, I want to anticipate a short synopsis and the cover of the novel.

The book, available episodically on Hive.blog, or in e-book format and later in print on Amazon, will belong to the Thriller genre, mixed with action and adventure. Many readers of the past made me notice that they also saw it well as horror, given the bloody plot and the themes most suitable for adults: I want to point this out to you to avoid accidentally coming across a too raw novel that you never wanted to read.

I will start publishing the episodes on the Hive blockchain from the first chapter, immediately after the official publication of the new version. The title of the novel, the same one which I published back in 2013, is
The Ice-eyed Beast
("La Bestia dagli Occhi di Ghiaccio").

The Cover

For this new edition, I wanted to create my own cover. In the previous version, I created one using internal resources of the Amazon-branded platform. Perhaps also, for this reason, I obtained some success, I don't know. I will explain in a future post the publishing tools that this giant offers for independent authors or for those who want to publish their own work in e-book format independently.

For the cover, I started with an image taken through my smartphone, during a walk on a vaguely tepid winter afternoon. Below, you can see a cutout downloaded to your PC.

I took this image and varied the hue and opacity a little: I wanted soft colors, not very vivid, and that tended to a lighter range of colors than the classic thrillers with a cover full of shadows. I also created a strongly whitish area where I wanted to insert the title.

02.jpg

The next step was creating the title. I looked for a graceful, less edgy font than usual. I have varied the dimensions a little and have distorted the result on various sides. Same thing for the author's name, who is me. I chose colors that could somehow match with the others, but at the same time create some contrast with the background.

03.jpg

I then added a few more lines of text: a handful of anticipation and a note at the top to indicate that the novel was published independently by the author (self-publish method).

04.jpg

The positions of the elements on the cover were what I roughly wanted to keep. However, I wanted to add a little more precision: I then created a coarse grid in the background and repositioned the various elements. See the result below.

But the cover thus obtained was only a provisional one: each publication has its own format, adapted to the reading method that will be used. I, therefore, had to create a format adapted for publication on Amazon. The same thing I will have to do for the print publication when I start it. Below, I show you the preview of the Amazon Kindle cover.

The back of the cover will tend to be neutral, and I have decided to avoid showing it. It will be more accurate for the paper version, in which I will insert a synopsis. The synopsis is that short text that describes the content of a book, usually available on online sites or on the covers of novels. I have decided to insert below the one you will find for The Ice-eyed Beast.

1995, Garfagnana. Santo is looking for a treasure, a treasure that his ancestors hid for fear that some jackal might steal it from the inhabitants of Col di Favilla. A dark presence follows his shadow. Santo suspects that someone has a purpose and that he is determined to carry it out. So resolute that he could commit one of the most atrocious massacres in the history of the mountains.

Now, Garfagnana. Ottavio and Linda are two simple friends, wary of love life. A trip, a vacation, something that they understand is only a dream when they find themselves in a death spiral. A nightmare that takes shape from a distant memory, what happened many years ago. And now he's back, ready to bring the torment back to the mountains.

Something has undermined the quiet of the forest. That something caused a chain reaction, feared even by the mountain inhabitants. The thing has awakened, determined to avenge the offenses of the past, determined to restore a lost balance. Nothing can stand in his way, no one can escape the written destiny the moment the gears of vengeance have started to turn again. After years of hibernation, now the peace is about to end. Because after years of rest, the beast has reopened its eyes.

With this, I end my monologue and I hope that the novel will interest you. I repeat: you will find the full version on Amazon, at a variable price depending on the country in which it will be sold, or you can read it for free in the episodic edition that I will publish on my blog connected to the Hive blockchain.

I give you an appointment for the first episode with the prologue of the story. A greeting and see you soon!

Sort:

Have you seen that there is some type of book dApp for hive called inkito? Over never used it but it looks kinda cool

Perhaps worth looking into!

https://inkito.io/

I didn't know, thank you very much. I'll take a look later :) !WINE

I think it maybe can do chapters at a time, or whatever or perhaps make a continual scroll read, which can be hard to read in different posts

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. An entire publication in a single post I think I will not do it, the novel that I will publish on Amazon would lose value, and an abnormal post on the chain would still be born. The novel is over 300,000 characters long. But if the site allows unifying several posts, it would be a nice thing.
