Buenos Aires is said to be the city in Latin America with the best street art. It's one of those cities where graffiti is legal. Graffiti / street art started out from writings of simple words and stencils to become bigger and more sophisticated. During the dictatorship in the 70s and 80s the slogans painted were more political oriented. Today it reflects the life in the city.
As I travelled from north to south, I found street art in every corner of the country. Even in the Andes (Mendoza) only a few kilometers from the starting point for trekking to Aconcagua, the highest mountain on the continent. The village of Purmamarca is located in north-western corner. The graffiti is inpired form the Inca empire and the arrival of the Spanish conquestadors. In addition the village has the Hill of Seven Colors. The hills and colors is also a theme in much of the graffiti I saw here.
Ushuaia is the southernmost city. The capital of Tierra del Fuego (Land of Fire) and considered the southernmost city on earth. The street art reflects the history of Ushuaia as a former penal colony and life of indigenous people living here before the arrival of the Europeans.
