Though I know the name Daft Punk for as long as they exist, I never took too much effort to follow them. I missed a lot of their work, at least consciously. Whenever I do listen to something they've created, I'm always pleased with what I hear (well, most of the time). You mentioned EDM... Though maybe right, those three letters have a bad connotation for me, since this is the name given to all this music played by the top DJs (Tiesto, Armin van Buren, blah blah blah) and loved by the mass. While Daft Punk is not at all that style, in my honest opinion. It's more like Funk and Disco. And for sure, their music is far more than the average... (otherwise, I wouldn't be able to listen to it for long :)). Euhm, ok, Daft Punk all over China as well!
Well yeah, I tend to use EDM as a rather large umbrella term that fits its more literal description, but you're right there's much more to them than that, many songs are not for dancing at all, and others are surprisingly acoustic.
If you want to experience something wonderful, Put an hour aside for Interstellar 5555. It's pretty unique that it's like a movie that simply just runs through the album Discovery. It's just... it's a lovely experience =)

'Discovery' the album is called in Spotify. I realised when starting this one, I know quite a few songs and danced to quite a few of them at various occasions back in the days 🙃 Disco with a large doze of electro. Quite strange I never really followed them. But maybe I felt these guys are to well known or something. Sometimes can be a bit allergic when the 'mass' go for something 🤣🤣🤣
I was reading a few interviews from these guys over the years. They felt they had to wear the masks and helmets since they thought when not, their work would not be interesting enough for the public. Sure, a mask of some sort is a gimic that grabs attention, but I guess either these guys are not too honest in their interviews, or they are insecure as hell. Regardless, without knowing, I do appreciate them a lot. Memories coming back when listening the Discovery (Interstellar 5555) album 🎶🙃
