Yep, I agree...Be it a tool, a book, a DVD, doesn't matter...The respect rule applies between family and strangers. I'm a little gun-shy of lending my things out. I had one guy ask to borrow my Landcruiser to tow a boat once. This was last year. Not me tow the boat, him borrow my Landcruiser. You can imagine what I said.
It's no different with IP (intellectual property) on the internet although people think it's theirs for the taking. Frustrates me.
Picks jaw up off the ground. I can't imagine any circumstances where I'd feel it appropriate to ask someone if I could borrow their car, except maybe my parents if absolutely desperate and only because they've offered that anyway and because I'd also offer them.
I know right? I've been asked to help move things in the past, using my vehicles, and I'm ok with it mostly, depending on who is doing the asking of course. But lending someone the big dog? Hmm, how about no.
