Making a new bag design while teaching my new student.

Hello everyone,

Good morning to you all. For a while now, I've had some people come to me that they want to learn bag making from me but I've been turning them down. This is due to two reasons. The first is because I was scared of taking a new challenge. I don't know if I will teach well and the second is creating time as I have lot of other things that I do. But few weeks ago, my mum talked to me and I decided to give it a trial.

ABOUT MY STUDENT

Yesterday, my first student came. Her name is Joyce and we attend same church. She's a student in the university and also a fashion designer. She has always loved my bag designs and she want to learn before school resumes back. When she came, I did some test for her by asking her to cut straight and sow straight and she did well for a start. Being a fashion designer had gave her some little skills. Then I decided to make a new bag design in her presence.

I calculated the measurements, marked it on the leather and cut it. Doing that I used the opportunity to teach her how to do the above steps and I allowed her to do some cuttings and sowing of the bag handle.

After she cut the materials, I coupled the bag but I couldn't take pictures while coupling the bag because I was more focused on explaining the steps to her. When she was about to leave, she was very happy as she had learned a lot. Seeing her whatsapp status when she got home really made me happy.

ABOUT THE BAG.

The bag is of a two in one design. I made a smaller bag inside with detachable handle and a bigger transparent bag outside with a chain handle. First I sow the smaller bag then I used the smaller bag to calculate measurement for the bigger bag.

MATERIAL USED

  • Transparent material
  • Leather of choice
  • Eyelet
  • Chain
  • Adjuster
  • Hooks
  • Zip
