Galapagos giant tortoise (Chelonoidis nigra)
Galapagos giant tortoise is a giant look tortoise and one of the biggest tortoise in the world.It is considered as one of the most terrapins in the world.This kind of tortoise can survive more than 100 years in wild environment.But a prisoner galapagos can live more than 170 years and it is recorded.It grows it's weight more than 880 pounds.This species is almost 6 feet long.This tortoise is a local species and found in Galapagos islands, and subspecies are found on seven of the islands in the archipelago.
But now-a-days this kind of tortoise is decreasing in number due to poaching lack of natural habitats.This kind of species is critically endangered and human is mainly responsible to under threat of extinction.But recovery programs have helped to bring numbers back. And in case you were wondering whether a giant reptile could be cute — why yes, yes they can.
