I refuse to believe that this is a war of health against economics. A war of those who stay at home waiting for the money to end, against those who go out on the streets taking the risk of death (or at least the risk of spreading it). There are no arguments against facts, and this is a fact: the virus is here. It doesn't kill much, but it collapses any healthcare system with mastery. And who wants to be the one in agony without a respirator? The virus is here. Considering the three scenarios that predict its elimination, none will let us unscathed. Early immunization, isolation and social distancing or collective immunization. None of them will leave us unharmed. In the first one, we face the unprecedented risk in the history of vaccines, of finding a solution in a hurry. I believe in the human capacity to work under pressure and find good ways out, but unfortunately, biology does not work that way... In the second scenario, we will go crazy in isolation and break down worldwide. Who will rescue us? Nobody knows. In the third, we'll turn everything over to the law of the strongest, we'll die even more, and without being able to bury our dead. The virus is here. It's a fact. There's no point in fighting. We won't get away with it. On the other hand, there is an economic system, made by and for humans. We created that. A system based on resource exploitation and concentration of capital. It's been going wrong for a while, but we haven't been able to stop before. To deny our failures, "strong" economies all over the world were printing money in an attempt to make up for all the bankruptcy. We exploited resources more, to the limit, to cover the deficit. We then began to produce oceans of plastic, garbage everywhere and depletion of the planet and ourselves. I'm not impressed that a virus coming from Asia directly attacks our lungs. They say it doesn't hurt to cover it up. And anyone who has lived (or lives) in Asia, especially in the Southeast, had already realized that living without air wasn't something new... To generate consumer goods for the whole world, pollution had covered the sun for a long time and masks covered the microparticles that made the air unhealthy. When I lived in Southeast Asia, this thought did not cross my mind "we failed as a species. No living being on this planet is capable of generating as much destruction as human beings". Sometimes I think the coronavirus was a kind of survival instinct, a cry from the planet or a hello from the mother of nature saying "we need to stop these humans, they are fucking everything!". And like every mother, very wise, she put us in punishment, so everyone is in their room now, so we can finally think about the shit we were doing. And here we are, humans, locked , thinking about all that. Here in my punishment, I've been thinking a lot and I'm sure that this is not a war of health against the economy. This is a war of the economy against the economy, which needs to be reviewed, reinvented... Maybe it's time to think about new bases, new forms. And no, please don't come with the old story of capitalism or communism. That's another story, another time now. Perhaps we need to put into practice other skills, such as protection, solidarity, sharing, looking at others, love. Maybe we have to think of new bases, such as the preservation of resources and the decentralization of capital. We need to see ourselves as a whole, as a collective, as a species. But no, this is not a health war against the economy. It's not about who stays at home waiting for the money to end or who goes out to meet death, even if it's to spread it. It is a war of the economy against the economy. And it is up to us to decide whether we will be able to stop seeing ourselves as a commodity and finally start seeing ourselves as a species.
