When I bought my first deck I didn't imagine that this would become so fascinating for me. Apart from my crystal collection, this is another collection that began to grow 2 years ago and until now it is my most precious treasure. I want to show you a little bit about my collection, how I got these beautiful decks and what made me buy each one.
I'm going to organize it in order of purchase, from the first I bought to my last purchase.
Those of us who are dedicated to cartomancy or simple hobby deck collectors rely on several things to value a deck and decide if it is worth its price:
- The packaging: the material of the box it comes in is important because, being a deck of cards, we need them to be well protected due to the use that will be given to it over the years when opening and closing the box.
- The material of the cards: Some are so thin that you know they will become disposable in a few years if you don't handle them carefully.
- The book or written guide that comes with each one: The best and most premium is to have a deck that comes with a complete book with which you can learn a lot about your deck.
Cuando compré mi primer mazo no imaginé que esto se volvería tan fascinante para mi. Aparte de los cristales esta es otra colección que comenzó a crecer hace 2 años y hasta ahora es mi más preciado tesoro. Quiero contarles un poco sobre mi colección, cómo estos conseguí estos hermosos mazos y qué me hizo comprar cada uno.
Voy a organizarlo en órden de compra, desde el primero que compré hasta mi última adquisición.
Quienes se dedican a la cartomancia o simple coleccionistas de mazos por hobbie nos basamos en varias cosas para valorar un mazo y decidir si este vale su precio:
- El empaque: el material de la caja donde viene es importante porque al ser un mazo de cartas necesitamos que estén bien protegidas por el uso que se le dará durante los años al abrir y cerrar la caja.
- El material de las barajas: algunas son tan delgadas que sabes que se volverán desechables en unos años si no la tomas con cuidado.
- El libro o guía escrita que viene con cada uno: lo mejor y más premium es contar con un mazo que venga con un libro completo con el que puedas aprender mucho acerca de su baraja.
1. Tarot Rider Waite-Smith. by Editorial U.S Games

This was my first tarot deck, I bought it second hand from a person who had it in storage for years. For me it was and still is one of the most special because with this deck I learned a lot and I also did my first readings with friends and family. The box in which it came, as you can see in the first image, is very damaged and that is why I use a bag that I made myself to store it.
The Rider Waite Smith tarot is a traditional 20th century tarot, it was created by Arthur Waite and illustrated by Pamela Colman Smith, it is one of the most used today and is also the source of inspiration for many new decks. Surely many of you know it even without being tarot readers because his images have been used in movies, series and in pop culture.
Este fue mi primer mazo de tarot, lo compré de segunda mano a una persona que lo tenía guardado de hace años. Para mi fue y sigue siendo uno de los más especiales porque con este mazo aprendí muchísimo y también hice mis primeras lecturas con amigos y familiares. La caja en la que vino como pueden ver en la primera imágen está muy deteriorada y por eso uso una bolsita que yo misma hice para guardarlo.
El tarot Rider Waite Smith es un tarot tradicional del siglo 20, fue creado por Arthur Waite e ilustrado por Pamela Colman Smith, es uno de los más utilizado hoy en día y también es la fuente de inspiración de muchos mazos novedosos. Seguramente muchos lo conozcan aún sin ser tarotistas porque sus imágenes han sido usadas en películas, series y en la cultura pop.
Some time later I bought a normal size one in spanish version, because my first purchase was a giant one, which is more or less the size of a postcard and is not very comfortable to shuffle.
This deck can be found for a price of approximately 10 to 20 dollars, the giant being the most expensive for its size. There are more premium versions of this deck that are collectible and are much more expensive. I bought the most common ones, the cards quality are ok, not the best as others I have but is great anyway, their back is white with blue lines like those of a picnic rug.
Another thing to consider about this edition of the deck (the simple one) is that it comes with a very basic little book that barely explains keywords for each card. It is actually very useless, I recommend that if someone buys this deck and is a beginner, they should look for a book from which they can learn more than just keywords. The most premium versions come with a book called The Pictorial Key to the Tarot which is the book written by Arthur Waite himself as a guide to using this deck.
Tiempo después me compré uno de tamaño normal y en español, porque mi primera compra fue uno gigante, que es más o menos del tamaño de una postal y no es muy cómodo para barajear.
Este mazo se puede encontrar por un precio de 10 a 20 dólares aproximadamente, el gigante siendo el más costoso por su tamaño. Existen versiones más premium de este mazo que son de colección y son mucho más costosos. Yo compré los más comunes, la calidad de las cartas está bien, no es la mejor pero es como la calidad estándar de un mazo, su parte de reverso es blanca con lineas azules como las de un tapete de picnic.
Otra cosa a tomar en consideración de esta edición del mazo (la simple) es que viene con un pequeño libro muy básico que a penas explica palabras clave para cada carta. En realidad es muy poco útil, recomiendo que si alguien se compra este mazo y es principiante deberá buscar un libro del que pueda aprender más que solo palabras claves. Las versiones más premium vienen con un libro llamado La Llave Pictórica hacia el Tarot que es el libro que escribió el mismo Arthur Waite como guía para usar este mazo.
2. Cosmic Tarot by Norbert Lösche
This was the second tarot that I got and it is also second hand but it was preserved in very good condition. What made me buy it in the first place was that this edition brings a great book where each card is explained in detail and on the other hand the magic of its illustrations, it has cards that remind of famous scenes from cult movies as you can see in the images .
A curiosity is that the seller made me a great offer for this and the following deck, basically I bought both for 35 dollars. Considering they were both used and open from their packaging it's a good price. But at its original price this deck costs 30 dollars, currently you can't get the version that comes with a book, only the deck. So it was a great win for me :) !
Este fue el segundo tarot que conseguí y también es de segunda mano pero estaba conservado en muy buen estado. Lo que me hizo comprarlo en primer lugar fue que esta edición trae un gran libro donde se explica a detalle cada carta y por otra parte lo mágico de sus ilustraciones, tiene cartas que recuerdan a escenas famosas del cine de culto como pueden ver en las imágenes.
Una curiosidad es que la vendedora me hizo una gran oferta por este y el siguiente mazo, básicamente compré ambos por 35 dólares. Considerando que ambos estaban usados y abiertos de su empaque es un buen precio. Pero en su precio original este mazo cuesta 30 dólares, actualmente no se consigue la versión que trae libro, solo el mazo. Así que fue un gran acierto para mi :) !
The book has 190 pages, each one explains the card and its divinatory meaning. The back of the cards have a beautiful illustration full of complicated symbols in a kind of cosmic mandala. The cards have a good quality, very similar to the cards that are used to play.
El libro cuenta con 190 páginas, en cada una explica la carta y su significado adivinatorio. La parte trasera de las cartas tienen una hermosa ilustración llena de complicados símbolos en un especie de mandala cósmico. Las cartas tienen una buena calidad, muy parecida a los naipes que se usan para jugar.
Osho Zen Tarot by Deva Padma, Editorial Gaia
This is the third tarot that I bought and it came with the previous one mentioned. It is also second hand as I already told you. Actually if I'm honest I didn't feel any interest in this deck, I bought it only because the offer included two decks and I wanted the Cosmic Tarot. So I accepted.
I got a big surprise when I had it in my hands and I was grateful. This tarot is very different from traditional systems, it contains a lot of Buddhist wisdom. It is a very intuitive deck with which you can make very pleasant readings and its illustrations are also very simple but colorful.
Este es el tercer tarot que compré y vino con el anterior mencionado. También es de segunda mano como ya les conté. En realidad si soy sincera yo no sentía ningún interés por este mazo, lo compré solo porque la oferta incluía dos mazos y quería el Cosmic Tarot. Así que acepté.
Me llevé una gran sorpresa cuando lo tuve en mis manos y agradecí. Este tarot es muy diferente a los sistemas tradicionales, en él está contenida mucha sabiduría budista. Es un mazo muy intuitivo con el que se pueden hacer lecturas muy agradables y además sus ilustraciones son muy simples pero coloridas.

A curiosity about this deck is that it bears the name ''Osho'' but it was not created by Osho himself, it was actually created by one of his students, inspired by her teacher she gave herself the freedom to illustrate a beautiful deck based on in Zen philosophy.
Una curiosidad sobre este mazo es que lleva el nombre de ''Osho'' pero no fué creado por el mismo Osho, en realidad fué creado por una de sus estudiantes, inspirada por su maestro se dió la libertad de ilustrar un hermoso mazo basándose en la filosofía zen.
The book contains 172 pages and each one of them explains each card but from a reflective perspective rather than a divinatory one, it is not a deck to guess the future, but rather to generate awareness. Also attached to each text of each card is a quote from Osho's books that directly relates to the idea of the card. It is very beautiful. The cards are made of good quality thick cardboard and the back of each card is orange and has Osho's signature stamped on it.
This deck can be obtained for a price of approximately 30 dollars and is very famous, luckily the edition that comes with a book is still sold, but I have seen that there are also others that do not include it.
El libro contiene 172 páginas y en cada una de ellas explica cada carta pero desde una perspectiva reflexiva más que adivinatoria, no es un mazo para adivinar futuro, si no para generar conciencia. También junto a cada texto de cada carta está adjunta una cita de los libros de Osho que se relaciona directamente con la idea de la carta. Es muy hermoso. Las cartas son de un cartón grueso de buena calidad y la parte trasera de cada carta es naranja y tiene la firma de Osho estampada.
Este mazo puede ser conseguido por un precio de 30 dólares aproximadamente y es muy famoso, por suerte aún se vende la edición que viene con libro pero he visto que también hay otras que no lo incluyen.

This was the first deck that I bought new as a package, I saw it online and I fell in love with it but it is not sold on amazon or in any publisher since it is an author's deck, that means that in order to buy it you have to talk to the artist who made it or find a certified store where she is distributing it. It comes with a small book where we can learn the scientific names of animal and plant species. The quality of the cards is superior, they feel like string, plus they have a beautiful gold border. Its back has stars and moons adorned with flowers.
The price of this deck according to Megan's store is 45 dollars, I paid for it 65 dollars taking into account the shipment to Venezuela.
Viene con un pequeño libro donde podemos conocer los nombres científicos de las especies animales y plantas. La calidad de las cartas es superior, se siente como si fueran de hilo, además tienen un hermoso borde dorado. Su parte trasera tiene estrellas y lunas adornado con flores.
El precio de este mazo de acuerdo a la tienda de Megan 45 dólares, yo pagué por el 65 dólares tomando en cuenta el envío hacia Venezuela.
Sacred Circle Tarot by Anna Franklin & Paul Mason, Editorial EDAF
This deck is a treasure for me, I got it second hand and it is very rare to get the version that has the book, so it was a great win for me. I bought it because I saw it at a very low price (10 dollars) including the book, my jaw dropped 😮 so I ordered it.
When I bought it I had no idea, but something I always do is watch reviews on YouTube because that way I can know if I like the cards or not. In this case I loved that it is a deck inspired by different Celtic, Nordic and Greek mythology traditions.
Este mazo es un tesoro para mi, lo conseguí de segunda mano y es muy raro conseguir la versión que tiene el libro, por lo que fue una gran ganancia para mi. Lo compré porque lo vi en un precio muy bajo (10 dólares) incluyendo el libro, quedé boquiabierta 😮 así que lo pedí.
Cuando lo compré no tenía mucha idea, pero algo que siempre hago es ver reseñas en Youtube porque así puedo saber si las cartas me gustan o no. En este caso me encantó que es un mazo inspirado en diferentes tradiciones celtas, nórdicas y mitología griega.

The book is very large, it has 335 pages where it explains each meaning, symbolism and also the history of the pagan traditions of those places, it also explains the meaning of each element used in the cards such as plants and symbols.
El libro es muy grande, tiene 335 páginas donde explica cada significado, simbolismo y además historia de las tradiciones paganas de esos lugares, también explica el significado de cada elemento usado en la carta como las plantas y símbolos.

Something that characterizes this deck is that it is from the 2000s and was created with photoshop as a photographic collage. The cards of this edition (the one I have) are very thin, you can see in the images that they are a bit worn, however I love them anyway. The back of the cards bears the symbols of this tarot: the shield, the sword, the chalice and the spear.
This deck has a price of 20 dollars, however the version that has a physical book is no longer sold, I have seen that the book is only available in PDF.
Algo que caracteriza este mazo es que es de los años 2000' y fue creado con photoshop a modo de collage fotográfico. Las cartas de esta edición (la que yo tengo) son muy delgadas, se puede notar en las imágenes que estan un poco desgastadas, sin embargo me encantan de todas formas. La parte trasera de las cartas lleva los símbolos de este tarot: el escudo, la espada, el cáliz y la lanza.
Este mazo tiene un precio oficial de 20 dólares, sin embargo ya no se vende la versión que tiene libro físico, he visto que sólo se consigue el libro en PDF.
Crow Tarot by M. J. Cullinane, Editorial U. S. Games
This tarot was love at first sight, I came across it online by chance and immediately wanted to buy it, it is a deck that uses crows as the protagonists of each card instead of human beings. What I liked the most is that it is a friendly representation of the crows, since there are other decks with a much darker and more gloomy aesthetic.
Este tarot fue amor a primera vista, me lo topé por casualidad online e inmediatamente quise comprarlo, es un mazo que usa cuervos como protagonistas de cada carta en vez de seres humanos. Lo que más me gustó es que es una representación amigable de los cuervos, ya que existen otros mazos con una estética mucho más oscura y lúgubre.

The quality of the cards is very good and they are a little larger than the traditional ones. The back is a pattern similar to the wings of ravens.
Something that also makes it a bit different from the others is that the margins of each card have a different coloration, like a vintage-style finish that makes the cards look elegant and old-fashioned.

La calidad de las cartas es muy buena y son de un tamaño un poco más grandes que las tradicionales. La parte de atrás es un patrón parecido a las alas de los cuervos.
Algo que también lo hace un poco diferente a los demás es que los márgenes de cada carta tienen una coloración diferente, como un acabado de estilo vintage que hace ver las cartas con un estilo elegante y antiguo.

Tarot de Marsella by Industria Argentina
When you see this tarot you will surely guess the reason why I bought it, exactly, because of its circular shape. Marseille Tarot is one of the first and most traditional decks along with the Rider Waite Smith, although this card system is more famous in Latin America and in Spain, simply because it is the predecessor of the famous Spanish deck that we use to play for many years.
The Marseille Tarot is known as one of the first tarot decks, it has no known author, that is why it is so mysterious and taken into account as the most important for those who collect and practice tarot.
Al ver este tarot seguro adivinarás la razón por la cuál lo compré, exacto, por su forma circular. El Tarot de Marsella es uno de los primeros mazos y de los más tradicionales junto con el Rider Waite Smith, aunque este sistema de cartas es más famoso en Latinoamérica y en España, simple, porque es el predecesor de la famosa baraja española que usamos para jugar por muchos años.

Actually, this circular version is not common, that's why I loved it, because I don't like the traditional deck because of its aesthetics despite being a carrier of a lot of symbology and tradition, I'm going to share a photo of the original Marsella deck and how it is usually sold.

In my opinion this deck is beautiful and very magical, its colors and shape make it unique. The back of the deck contains something like stars and a mandala that resembles gold in the center. Simply beautiful. It comes with a very thin little book that only has keywords for each card, not very useful for reading the deck.
This deck is only sold in Argentina since it is a publisher from there who created it, I bought it for 30 dollars including shipping to Venezuela.
En mi opinión este mazo es hermoso y muy mágico, sus colores y su forma lo hacen único. La parte trasera del mazo contiene algo así como unas estrellas y una mandala que asemeja un oro en el centro. Simplemente hermoso. Viene con un pequeño libro muy delgado que sólo tiene palabras claves para cada carta, no es muy útil para leer el mazo.
Este mazo sólo lo venden en Argentina ya que es una editorial de allí quienes lo crearon, yo lo compré por 30 dólares incluyendo el envío a Venezuela.

This is the last deck I bought last year 2021 in November, it is second hand. It is the third traditional tarot, completing my collection of the three great traditional systems: Tarot Rider Waite, Tarot de Marseille and Tarot Thot. Under these three big ones a wide variety of decks is displayed, but these three are the first to make their presence known and are still being studied.
The Tarot of Thoth is characterized by having a more abstract style and being filled with much more symbology including Egyptian and astrological traditions.
This tarot is historically infamous for its creator who was accused of being a satanist, so it is a deck that is often rejected, it is the most "rare" of all and the least popularly used (of the three mentioned above) .
Este es el último mazo que compré el año pasado 2021 por noviembre, es de segunda mano. Es el tercer tarot tradicional, completando mi colección de los tres grandes sistemas tradicionales: Tarot Rider Waite, Tarot de Marsella y Tarot Thot. Bajo estos tres grandes se despliega una gran variedad de mazos, pero son estos tres los primeros que hicieron presencia y siguen siendo objeto de estudio.
El Tarot de Thot se caracteriza por tener un estilo más abstracto y por estar lleno de mucha más simbología incluyendo tradiciones egipcias y astrológicas.
Este tarot es históricamente infame por su creador quien fue acusado de satanista, por lo que es un mazo que es a menudo rechazado, es el mas ''raro'' de todos y el que menos se usa popularmente (de los tres mencionados anteriormente).
The cards are of very good quality, are slightly smaller than standard size and on the back are decorated with the symbol of the Rosicrucians, a secret order from the 1600s.
The book that includes this edition called Tarot, The Mirror of the Soul written by Gerd Ziegler, contains 217 pages, in which the meanings of the cards, interpretations and also affirmations for each one are contained. It is actually very enriching and enjoyable to read. Despite being one of the most complex tarots in existence, this book does a great job of making it easy to understand.
I bought this deck for 10 dollars, I think it is currently available for 20 dollars in its most common versions, but I have seen premium collection versions of up to 200 dollars.
Las cartas tienen una calidad muy buena, son un poco más pequeñas que el tamaño estándar y en su parte trasera están decoradas con el símbolo de los rosacruces, una órden secreta de los años 1600.
El libro que incluye esta edición llamado Tarot, El Espejo del Alma escrito por Gerd Ziegler, contiene 217 páginas, en las que están contenidas los significados de las cartas, interpretaciones y además afirmaciones para cada una. En realidad es muy enriquecedor y agradable de leer. A pesar de ser uno de los tarots más complejos que existen este libro hace un gran trabajo para que sea de fácil comprensión.
Este mazo lo compré por 10 dólares, creo que se consigue actualmente por 20 dólares en sus versiones más comunes, pero he visto versiones premium de colección de hasta 200 dólares.
