When we read Blumhouse, we relate it directly to a horror film, it's the genre they know best and they had good box office successes, although they also produced Whiplash. Their films can be considered low-budget, if we compare them to films from the big studios. It's a production company of B movies for this generation with excellent economic benefits...

That's precisely what "The Hunt" is about, a film that breathes B series everywhere. Directed by Craig Zobel, the film was shrouded in controversy before its release. I saw his trailer in the third quarter of last year and was waiting for its release. The trailer attracted attention, the premise was interesting. Then the tragedies happened in the United States. Several shootings where civilians suffered the wrath of insane people. The film's release was postponed, there were even rumours that it would be archived indefinitely.

Why? What's the story of the film?

The cancellation of the release is due to the plot of the film. A group of people wake up in a campsite, they're tied up and bewildered. All of them with no apparent connection but with something in common, are people of conservative political persuasion. They soon discover that they are being hunted by a group of unknown people with a liberal political tendency. What they didn't count on is that one of the prey has military training.

The film is a very funny cocktail. It's about an hour and a half long, and it's got quite a pace. They don't use unnecessary footage, everything goes fast and the script turns are well included. The best twist in the story is when we discover who all those people are, both the hunters and the ones being hunted.

It's B series, o.k! None of the actors know they're getting an award for this movie. Although they do have an Oscar winner in their cast: Hilary Swank playing the antagonist and leader of the hunting party. The heroine is played by Betty Gilpin, an actress whom I follow for her work in the series Glow. She is correct in her role as a strong woman and decides to take down all the hunters.

When they announced that they would release it this year, the production company used great marketing strategy, stressing that it was the most controversial film ever seen. I'm glad they turned it around and used it to achieve greater reach and impact in their promotions.

I found the film very funny. The story is full of absurd moments and a high dose of violence. Explosions, blood, mutilations. A bloody, crazy feast. Come on! You know Blumhouse offers fun. That's why all this absurd controversy and the delay of its release has ended up seeming more absurd than the story of the film. It wasn't that big a deal.

Another film recommended for viewing in this time of quarantine. I hope you like it.

Check out my most recent reblog if you happen to be interested in a delegation to support other film and TV posters here on Hive. Might be something you'd like to participate in!

I watched it the other day and I think a B grade movie is too high. I watched it in two parts but not something I would recommend as everything about it was weal. Plot, acting all substandard. Your rating is way too high and this is a 1/10 at best.

Hahaha yes, everyone has their appreciation.
There are movies that are so bad, they end up being good. I was a fan of Troma's movies. ( Did you see The Toxic Avenger?) Junk movies, but they amuse me.
This film made me laugh a lot, with its absurd scenes. To pass the time, it's ideal!
