La violencia de género es una de las grandes problemáticas que afronta la sociedad y se calcula que a escala mundial el 35% de las mujeres han sufrido alguna vez violencia física o sexual según la ONU MUJERES.
Gender violence is one of the major problems facing society and it is estimated that worldwide 35% of women have ever suffered physical or sexual violence according to UN Women.
La ONU escogió este día para concientizar sobre el flagelo que viven muchas mujeres (y en algunos casos hombres) diariamente. Las personas que son víctimas de la violencia de género están sometidas a un entorno hostil que causa no solo daños físicos, las secuelas psicológicas y emocionales son también consecuencias de una violencia continuada.
The UN chose this day to raise awareness about the scourge that many women (and in some cases men) experience on a daily basis. People who are victims of gender-based violence are subjected to a hostile environment that causes not only physical harm, but the psychological and emotional aftermath is also a consequence of continued violence.
Muchas personas poseen una idea equivocada de la violencia de género, piensan que esta solo se trata de maltrato meramente físico y no es así, la Organización Ayuda en Acción ha tipificado la violencia en varios tipos, entre ellos:
Many people have a misconception of gender-based violence, thinking that it is only physical abuse and it is not. Organization Aid in Action has categorized violence into several types, including:
- Violencia psicológica. | Psychological violence.
- Violencia física. | Physical violence.
- Violencia económica. | Economic violence.
- Violencia institucional. | Institutional violence.
- Violencia sexual. | Sexual violence.
- Violencia simbólica. | Symbolic violence.
- Violencia verbal. | Verbal violence.
- Violencia laboral. | Workplace violence.
Todos estos tipos de violencia generalmente vienen antecedidos de conductas sexistas y machistas que son, de acuerdo con diversas opiniones, en gran parte el origen del problema, sobretodo el machismo.
All these types of violence generally come before sexist and macho behaviors that are, according to various opinions, largely the origin of the problem, especially machismo.
Muchos países de Latinoamérica presentan cifras elevadas de violencia de género y a pesar del esfuerzo de algunos gobiernos y autoridades los casos no parecen disminuir, países como México, Brasil, México, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Bolivia y Venezuela lideran las lamentables cifras; México es el país del continente con más asesinatos de mujeres víctimas de un agresor y aunque en estos casos se ha tipificado el crimen como feminicidio pocos llegan a resolverse y a apresar al agresor, todos estos datos los proporciona Observatorio de Igualdad de Género de América Latina y el Caribe (OIG)
Many Latin American countries have high rates of gender-based violence, and despite the efforts of some governments and authorities, the cases do not seem to be decreasing. Countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Bolivia, and Venezuela lead the way in these unfortunate figures; Mexico is the country on the continent with the most murders of women who are victims of an aggressor, and although in these cases the crime has been classified as feminicide, few cases are resolved and the aggressor is apprehended, all of these data are provided by Gender Equality Observatory of Latin America and the Caribbean (OIG)
Este flagelo no es cosa de países en vías de desarrollo, en Europa la problemática está bien marcada, en España por ejemplo la Delegación del Gobierno para la Violencia de Género calcula que en el 2020 han muerto 41 mujeres víctimas de violencia de genero hasta la fecha.
This scourge is not a matter for developing countries, in Europe the problem is well marked, in Spain for example the Government Delegation for Gender Violence estimates that in 2020 41 women have died victims of gender violence to date.
La violencia doméstica o de género no afecta solo a las víctimas, en el caso de familias con niños la agresión por parte del padre hacia la madre causa graves secuelas psicológicas en los niños, lo que tiene efectos en la conducta y personalidad de estos niños. La Oficina para la Salud de las Mujeres (OWH) calcula que los niños que han presenciado hechos violentos en sus hogares sufren consecuencias que los acompañan durante todas sus vidas.
Domestic or gender violence does not only affect the victims, in the case of families with children the aggression by the father towards the mother causes serious psychological consequences in the children, which has effects on the behavior and personality of these children. The Office of Women's Health (OWH) estimates that children who have witnessed violence in their homes suffer life-long consequences.
Este problema es una responsabilidad de toda la sociedad, es nuestro deber colaborar para la erradicación de este horrible flagelo; estoy seguro que muchos conocerán alguna víctima de violencia o peor, lo habrán vivido en carne propia, por ende y dada la frecuencia con que suceden estos casos debemos participar para que no siga sucediendo.
This problem is a responsibility of all of society, it is our duty to collaborate in the eradication of this horrible scourge; I am sure that many will know of a victim of violence or worse, will have experienced it firsthand, therefore and given the frequency with which these cases occur we must participate so that it does not continue to happen.
La educación de nuestros niños es tal vez nuestra mejor opción a futuro pues si educamos a los niños con la premisa de igualdad total entre hombres y mujeres estaremos formando ciudadanos respetuosos y responsables con los derechos de los demás. Eliminar pensamientos y enseñanzas machistas es también una forma de aportar a la solución del problema; nuestros niños deben comprender que no existen “tareas exclusivas de hombres ni de mujeres” tampoco existen oficios, profesiones, gustos ni cosas exclusivas a un solo género. La igualdad, y por ende el respeto comienzan en el hogar y desde muy pequeños.
The education of our children is perhaps our best option for the future, because if we educate our children with the premise of total equality between men and women, we will be forming citizens who respect and are responsible for the rights of others. Eliminating macho thoughts and teachings is also a way to contribute to the solution of the problem; our children must understand that there are no "tasks exclusive to men or women" nor are there jobs, professions, tastes or things exclusive to one gender. Equality, and therefore respect, begins at home and from a very young age.
Si somos testigos de algún hecho de violencia de género es nuestro deber denunciarlo ante las autoridades pertinentes; si conocemos alguna víctima lo ideal es que tratemos de brindarle el mayor apoyo posible y animarle a que busque ayuda profesional y por supuesto denuncie y termine con el flagelo que vive, es importante que nos asesoremos en cuanto a las organizaciones que brindan apoyo a las víctimas de la violencia. Incluso si conocemos algún agresor deberíamos intentar hacerle ver que está cometiendo graves errores y podríamos ayudarle a que también busque ayuda profesional antes de que sea tarde.
If we are witnesses of any act of gender violence, it is our duty to report it to the relevant authorities; if we know a victim, ideally we should try to provide as much support as possible and encourage her to seek professional help and of course to report and end the scourge she is experiencing. It is important that we seek advice from organizations that provide support to victims of violence. Even if we know an aggressor we should try to make him see that he is making serious mistakes and we could help him to also seek professional help before it is too late.
Cuando en nuestra sociedad las personas viven tranquilas y ajenas a cualquier problema que perturbe su integridad física y mental esta sociedad funciona mucho mejor, el bienestar individual tiene que ser un indicador de la salud y bienestar de la sociedad en general, por eso quiero recalcar que la violencia de género es un problema de todos por tanto es necesario que todos colaboramos y aportemos soluciones a este horrible problema.
When people in our society live quietly and unaware of any problem that disturbs their physical and mental integrity, this society functions much better. Individual well-being has to be an indicator of the health and well-being of society in general, which is why I want to emphasize that gender violence is a problem for everyone, so we all need to collaborate and provide solutions to this horrible problem.
