El pasado 21 de febrero fue la fecha de nacimiento, en 1903, de una mujer que –creo- sigue siendo de las más osadas del siglo XX: Anaïs Nin, escritora de origen francés (aunque luego adoptó la nacionalidad estadounidense), que se destacara por ser de las primeras en asumir la escritura erótica.
Last February 21st was the date of birth, in 1903, of a woman who -I believe- is still one of the most daring women of the 20th century: Anaïs Nin, a writer of French origin (although she later adopted American nationality), who stood out for being one of the first to take on erotic writing.
Se sabe -por lo que ella misma dijo en sus diarios (de varios volúmenes, publicados unos en vida y otros póstumamente; logré leer algunos de ellos) y otros han informado- que tuvo una vida amorosa y sexual muy intensa, con escarceos extramatrimoniales de diverso carácter. Tuvo relaciones amistosas y amatorias con reconocidos escritores, como el famoso novelista estadounidense Henry Miller, entre otros.
Es autora de una obra literaria que incluye no solo narrativa erótica, aunque, indudablemente, fue esta la que la dio a conocer ampliamente. Por ejemplo, su estudio juvenil del escritor británico D. H. Lawrence (que no he podido obtener), pero que, curiosamente, aborda a un autor que también fue atrevido en su obra, como lo demuestra su novela (llevada al cine) El amante de Lady Chatterley.
De Anaïs Nin conservo el libro de cuentos eróticos Pájaros de fuego, que completa su anterior Delta de Venus, autorizados a publicar por su autora en 1970. De él les compartiré un cuento que me gusta particularmente, pero antes unas consideraciones interesantes de su autora para Delta de Venus.
It is known -from what she herself said in her diaries (several volumes, some published during her lifetime and others posthumously; I managed to read some of them) and others have reported- that she had a very intense love and sex life, with extramarital affairs of various kinds. She had friendly and amatory relationships with renowned writers, such as the famous American novelist Henry Miller, among others.
She is the author of a literary work that includes not only erotic narrative, although, undoubtedly, it was this that made her widely known. For example, her juvenile study of the British writer D. H. Lawrence (which I have not been able to obtain), but which, curiously, deals with an author who was also daring in his work, as evidenced by his novel (made into a film) Lady Chatterley's Lover.
From Anaïs Nin I keep the book of erotic stories Pájaros de fuego, which completes her previous Delta de Venus, authorized to be published by its author in 1970. From it I will share with you a story that I particularly like, but first some interesting considerations of the author for Delta de Venus.
Expone Anaïs Nin en ese prefacio:
Es curioso que muy pocos autores hayan escrito espontáneamente confesiones o relatos eróticos.
(…)
Una cosa es incluir erotismo en una novela o en un cuento y otra muy distinta dedicarle toda la atención.
(…)
Pero centrarse exclusivamente en la vida sexual no es usual.
(…)
Sigue que asumió la necesidad suya y de otros escritores que pasaban por situaciones duras de carencia (habla de hambre). Por eso dice:
Me convertí en lo que denominaré la Madame de una extraña casa de prostitución literaria.
Continúa y cierra con estas expresiones:
Gran parte de los relatos eróticos han sido escritos con el estómago vacío. Ahora bien, el hambre es muy buena para estimular la imaginación; no da potencia sexual y a potencia sexual no engendra aventuras extravagantes.
(…)
La vida sexual suele ser recubierta de muchas costras entre todos nosotros (…)
Anaïs Nin states in that preface:
It is curious that very few authors have spontaneously written confessions or erotic stories. (...)
It is one thing to include eroticism in a novel or in a short story and quite another to devote full attention to it.
He continues that he assumed his own need and that of other writers who were going through hard situations of lack (he speaks of hunger). That is why he says:
I became what I will call the Madame of a strange house of literary prostitution.
And she continues and closes with these expressions:
Much of the erotic stories have been written on an empty stomach. Now, hunger is very good for stimulating the imagination; it does not give sexual potency and sexual potency does not engender extravagant adventures.

The sexual life is usually covered with many scabs among all of us (...)
