True that there is little publicity about the hard fork, not sure where I had read up on. Haha, the majority users are just “normal folks” like me. So it is very less of concern when the Hardfork had nothing directly affecting the folks. Yet, in another perspective, having to understand the blockchain infrastructure and to be more invested in it, every hard fork does count as one milestone.
It is good to stay abreast of what is going on, even at a general level. But, many don't and I guess it is a personal decision as to whether they follow the accounts that announce or not :)
