One whole year on Hive; the struggles and the wins.

in OCD3 years ago

Exactly today one year ago, I signed up on Hive and made my introduction post. At that time, I had no idea that Hive was Steemit's rebirth. It was why I created a new account on Hive. Else I'd have continued with my previous account. But I'm glad I opened a new one.

Opening a new account meant a fresh start for me. It meant I'll have to start over as a newbie and then gradually build rep. Being a newbie is stressful as hell. It's almost as though you are invisible. Not for me though. Luckily, I didn't struggle so much as a newbie on Hive. This is testament to the fact that curation on Hive is fair when compared to the other platform.

The need to sign up on Hive was instigated by the pandemic, which meant a momentary halt to my actual job that is photography. The lockdown protocol meant I was going to be out of job, and consequently out of money. Aside from the financial implications, the lockdown was also going to affect me mentally. I had to channel all that free time to something tangible. And since I couldn't create new content, why not share old ones.

So signing up on Hive last year was for 2 major reasons; manage to stay funded, and get busy. Another reason was to share my content to a different kind of audience; a foreign audience. Thereby building valuable connections abroad. The third reason so far has been pleasurable to me, as I've had different people actually like my content, and I'm grateful.

Struggles on Hive.

To be honest, I wouldn't say I struggled on Hive. I'll say the level of value I was getting, was the level of value I was dishing out. And I've come to know that value is a subjective concept.

As a creative(photographer) and content creator, I didn't think I was going to get much here. That's because I never did on Steemit. My success on Steemit was tired to "Utopian", a steem dApp that I contributed to actively.

So choosing to make content as a creative on Hive, I didn't expect much. Especially as I realized most of the content that were curated highly, were related to the financial technicalities of Hive and other cryptos. This was what I thought when I joined. But having explored Hive for a whole year, my thoughts are different now.

There's value for almost anything you decide to do on Hive. Whether it's photography, gaming, music, writing, DIY, etc. Everyone has a community on Hive, consequently it means everyone has a voice on Hive. Create value in what ever niché you find yourself, and you'll get value back.

Wins on Hive.

My wins on Hive is the fact that I'm able to achieve all the reasons that made me sign up last year. With Hive, I was able to survive lockdown financially. I practically lived off my Hive earnings during lockdown.

Aside from staying afloat with my Hive earnings, I managed my lockdown free time and stayed busy; creating posts almost everyday. I think staying idle would have affected my mental health.

Lastly, I joined Hive to get my stuff across to foreign audience and this has also been achieved. I'm glad when I publish a post and someone not in Nigeria comments about how good my stuff is. It's an amazing feeling for me and I'm grateful.

It's been a whole year buzzing on Hive, and I have everything I wanted;

  • Almost 2k Hive power earned.
  • Valuable reactions on my content.
  • Foreign connections and friendships gained.

I'm not retiring though. I'll keep on creating value the best way I can. And to everyone that has ensured that I get to this point, I'm sincerely grateful. Y'all are the real MVPs.

I thought this too for a greater part of my journey here on Hive but it takes effort to get recognized. Every one here who get fat upvotes deserve it because they have been here on Hive consistently and have contributed a lot ( just like you ).

Congrats on your 1 year anniversary.
