A warning about plagiarism in Hive. / Una advertencia sobre el plagio en Hive. 🚫

Hello Hive friends ☉. I hope you are good today. I was writing another post to publish today but I stopped to write this publication as a result of a situation that a user I follow is going through: punishment for plagiarism.

I like to follow and support new users, welcome and write them nice comments. That is why I want to warn you in general about plagiarism in Hive, which is perhaps something you are not aware of at first.

The definition of plagiarism is simple: "use someone else's content as if it were your own." This means that if we publish someone else's things as if they were ours, we will be committing an infraction. That is not allowed here (or anywhere else).

But here at Hive it is also considered plagiarism to re-post your own content. For example, a few months ago you wrote a good post without success and you want to try your luck with it by publishing it again. ERROR. You will only get hunted by plagiarist hunters.

What are the consequences? Downvotes, being included in plagiarist blacklists, reputation downgrading (that's what I know so far).

So how do you be a good content creator? Always publish original content, written from scratch, without plagiarism. If we use images or any information from the web, cite the source correctly. Do not repost content, even if we have written it in the past.

I found it interesting to share this information since I found out about it months ago, when I saw an account of a user full of negative votes on his publications and had to write a post apologizing for having republished his old posts.

„What are the consequences? Downvotes, being included in plagiarist blacklists, reputation downgrading (that's what I know so far).“

  • Yes, that‘s a real problem here. I once had this, too. Some downvote bots cannot differentiate between real plagiarism and normal posts. I hope and think these problems will get solved.

„Always publish original content, written from scratch, without plagiarism.“

  • Great advice 👍

I only had a negative vote once, the first day I made the account for publishing two posts: one in English and one in Spanish saying the exact same thing. Someone recommended that I write the translation in the same post so here I am. I already started plagiarizing myself from day 1 😂.

HaHa... That's funny...

Good advice, especially to newcomers @lauramica, but I need to 'add' something to what you suggested😎

You said..."But here at Hive it is also considered plagiarism to re-post your own content"

Actually, it IS permissible to post something you wrote on another site, but the problem remains that a 'Bot' might pick up on it - NOT KNOWING you own the content and cite you. In that case... you would need to respond for a correction/explanation and it should be rectified.

Re-Posting an older post that you wrote to see if it gets better received than it did a long time before or you're simply proud of it, should be NOTED at least in some small way. If it's NOT for seeking rewards, you can always opt out of receiving rewards on that post in 'Settings' prior to publishing.

This of course, doesn't guarantee against someone having a problem with you, but we "can't please everyone" as the saying goes...😕

Have a happy day - everyone.

Ciao

Good and interesting clarification about sourcing yourself. Plagiarism hunters are really strict.

You always learn new things here. Thank you very much ❤.
