Good ending :) The doing it yourself part is the thing to overcome. Not once for a magically obtained reward. But all the time. It is as if we expect to be able to learn Kung Fu as Neo did — at the flash upload of a file. Where did the "Be like water" idea go?
Maybe I should stretch a bit today. And expect that to generally improve my health for the year to come ;) But unless I do it today, small chance that I will do it tomorrow. And no chance at all to do it for a second time in a row tomorrow.
The moment this happens, the skill is valueless. We see it happening now (a little more slowly) with photography, as anyone can take a decent enough image.
It works for bad habits too :)
Well, as a photographer, I am just telling people that all that matters is what story they are telling. As a photojournalist, I've known for a decade that most people, even well equipped, won't go where they need to stand in order to have a good angle and distance. Even photographers from a century ago (Ansel Adams in this case) have sayings like "To make a good picture is to know where to stand." Ansel Adams walked with a wooden box on wooden legs across the mountains.
