Hey there, lovely readers!
I am Mercy Dayo Korede, but feel free to call me Mercy, it’s what feels like home to me 😊. I hail from the beautiful Osun State, but currently call Kaduna State my home, it’s where my heart finds its rhythm right now, amidst the warmth of the North.
My academic journey led me to Kaduna State Polytechnic where I dipped my toes into the fascinating world of Science Laboratory Technology. But if I am being totally honest, my heart beats a little faster when I talk about fashion! There's something about creativity that speaks to my soul. I am that curious type who thrives on learning something new every single day whether it is a stitching technique, a spice for cooking, or exploring a new corner of Nigeria.
Growing up, I have always been drawn to the artsy side of things, and my elder sister bless her heart, has been my guiding light in the world of fashion designing. She has taught me the ropes, and I am loving every bit of it. Sewing undergarments is my sweet spot in fashion, I find it intriguing, and honestly, it turned out way easier than I imagined (I was braced for a bigger challenge, lol).
When I am not buried in fabrics and threads, you will find me in the kitchen whipping up something yummy 🍲. I am a total foodie at heart, Jollof rice with plantain? My absolute fave.
Blue and white are my go to colours, there is just something so calming about them.
Languages are like threads weaving cultures together for me. I speak Yoruba (my roots), English, and Hausa, it is lovely connecting with people across Nigeria in their languages 😊.
Travel is on my bucket list, okay, I haven’t stepped outside Nigeria yet, but I have had adventures within Kwara State, Kaduna State, Adamawa State, Oyo State, and Ondo States have seen me wandering their streets with curiosity. There is so much beauty in our country waiting to be soaked in.
I draw inspiration from amazing folks in fashion like Natalie Bray, Dennis Chumley, and Helen Armstrong, their stories fuel my creative fires. And oh, learning about body measurements (shoulder, bust, underbust, waist…you get the drill) opened doors for me, it is like unlocking secrets to bringing designs to life. Pattern drafting had its tricky bits, but hey, when you are willing, you make it work, right?
So, this is me Mercy: blending curiosity, creativity, fashion dreams, and a dash of food love 🍴. I am super excited to share bits of my journey, fashion musings, and maybe even some kitchen experiments here on my Hive blog.
