Have you ever heard the saying "code is art"? I find it hard to accept that. For art, irrespective of the sophistication of your tech tools, if it doesn't look "good" in concept, it will never look "good" on paper.
Unlike code, where you can constantly keep updating the concept to derive another product entirely. Obviously this is different from when a concept is being developed with no intended ending. Hence to me code is not art, only coding is.
When an artist is delivering a conceptual illustration, a lot of time the mistakes become part of the art, unlike coding, a bug cannot make up the code, if it temporarily runs and the programmers decide to run with it, it will only later result in a slippery slope for its intended usage.
This is a case study of the Steem blockchain
If you've not been living under a rock and you're familiar with drama on the blockchain then you must be aware of the current #SteemHostileTakeOver fiasco happening. The matter is still in a stalemate.
This flaw in the program design of the infrastructure Steem is built upon is an evidence of human behavior. Should the Steem community move forward from this in one piece, then this flaw should be developed on, else it will only be in a loop. I root for it being developed upon though, but in the grand scheme of things, how cool will be starting over?
"Any entity that threatens the joint stake of the community or threatens the usability of its Blockchain thereof, the Blockchain is subject to defend itself by employing measures specified by the witnesses elected by the community by consensus. Such entity is considered malicious and must be dealt with accordingly."
Though this is not entrenched into the part of the blockchain that stares at everyone's faces like 3second feeless transaction and high scalability, I highly suggest it being in a compartment for "code of conduct", I also think that this fits perfectly in the idea of the decentralization.
Moving forward, Hive was born. Hive is the launch of a new paradigm in the existence of DPOS system and the phase of decentralization, from select former developers of the Steem blockchain working together with other seasoned developers and Blockchain professionals within the Steem community, Hive is the new project spearheading the revolution in the flaw present in the traditional DPOS system.
This is where coding becomes art because one simple change or a couple of simple changes can affect the entire outcome of a program, what we will be dealing with on HIVE is not totally a new idea but a development of an existing infrastructure.
We've experienced centralization from existing infrastructures, we've seen poor communication from the former and present leads of Steem.inc, we've seen what it leads to and how detrimental it can be in trying to achieve something bigger than ourselves, the essence of open source collaboration, how cool will be starting over with the right mindset?
We've seen the most direct and practical example of an exploitable flaw in the DPOS governance, we've lived it, we've seen greed, how cool will be starting over with the right infrastructure that curbs such flaws?
Eventually, HIVE doesn't necessarily mean a new and perfect STEEM, it only means Steem improved in specific aspects and will sure carry its own unique flaws too.
But if we can truly pull our resources together and take pragmatic steps in order to bridge Steems many pitfalls, then HIVE will stand a chance to spearhead the new face of governance in a DPOS ecosystem. This is what I personally look forward to and I hope to have as much great time as I did on Steem even on HIVE.
