Hello Hivers,
Today I was reading a post by @sidwrites, where he listed out excellent points for new users on Hive. As a new Hiver, the post has helped me because I was a bit confused about some things. I think the post contents are clear and easy to follow as there are no bogus texts that could get one confused. After reading this post, I had some thoughts on the points and would like to share my points of view, and the effect the post would have on my future publications. I will pick his points and share my views.
Grab a glass of water as you read my views.
1: Start by expanding your boundary
He talks about expansion, and the truth is that I have little or no experience about the blockchain technology before now. But since Hive gives room for that it is of high advantage for me to learn new things. Expansion starts by mindset, and I will really work towards it.
2: Read. Read. And Read.
Reading has been helping me a lot in school, and the same is applicable here. Reading has been the fundamental way of learning new things so I believe it is imperative to read. I have got some people that I love reading their publication. I will mention only two @indigoocean @tarazkp
3: Know that rewards will come.
Yes, I have this mindset before joining the blockchain. We all know that the reward system is encouraging many people here. Other off-blockchain blog sites depend solely on users, traffic and Ads. Most of the blog sites that provide quality content get value back for their hard work. Life is about value for value. This is one great point I love so much in all of the tips. Because I know most new people are attracted here because of the dollar bills that they see on post. I want to become like those that get $200-$300 on their post, but I understand that I have to work hard for that to come.
4: Find like-minded Hivers.
This is another good point. I am new and have read some publications. I recognize people I can call “Like-minded” but while surfing I see people that have a huge reputation, like 70-80 but their post is with little or no value. What are we going to categorize people like that? I put this point out because of the 50 recommendations from @sidwrites. I am not against it but I think there are people with less reputation that are also doing well. All they need is recognition and support.
5: Engage with your heart.
This is a suitable point too. It is good to read other peoples post a comment and share thoughts. This I believe would cause some engagement. I have used the #posh initiative on my post once, but I did not get any engagement though. Probably because I am still new.
6: Understand Hive and Hive Dollar.
I understand a bit about the printing of the HIVE and HIVE DOLLAR. When HBD is about $1, the printing of payout comes with HBD and HIVE POWER, but when lower than $1 it is HIVE and HP. I hope I get that right. That I read in one old post by one person of Steem. I can’t remember the name.
7: Pick what’s relevant to you.
Yes, I have known about this before, and already on the page of topics I like. Eg, food, science, tech, crime, movie, music and more. I am a digital forensic scientist in the making and would like to see some realities in that aspect.
8: Write content that matters.
Writing good content is a pleasant thing for everyone to focus because to make known the aim of your writing to others you have to make your content and headlines simple, precise, and clear. So that readers won’t get a wrong impression of your write up.
9: Please don’t copy.
Plagiarism offence is equal with normal daylight robbery. It is bad for a writer because getting points on your own are the best thing to do to improve your writing skills. Aside from that, I don’t want to be picked on by the abuse fighters as mentioned like @jaguar.force and @hivewatchers, so I won’t get my name on some kind of shit (sorry for the language) and probably lose my reputation.
10: Format your content for readability.
In the formatting aspect, readability is one key for an outstanding writer. Sometimes it may not be too easy, but there there are apps that could also help with that. Images also depict good writing. I can also recommend Grammarly and Hemingway for new people like me.
11: Participate in something new.
One thing is that contest helps a lot because as a new user, there are situations whereby there won’t be an inspiration to write anything. Engaging in task would really help, and I have been checking on tasks here. The first one I engaged was organized by @theycallmedan, and I got some votes on it. I was happy on the support.
12: Add tags before publishing.
This I have a little understanding of. I have made a couple of posts and I used mostly the same set of tags. These tips had made me check for how to use relevant tags on posts, and I hope my future posts get more attention and visibility.
13: Use apps to stay closer to Hive.
Good apps. I surfed the dapps, but not using most of them. Peakd, threespeak, and hive.blog has been my thing for now.
14: Explore communities
Personally, with the few post I have published, I used OCD and GEMS, but I have gotten more rewards on GEM. However, I feel GEM and OCD are good communities.
15: Don’t forget to encourage others…
I quite agree about giving because the Bible says givers never lack, and that is one of the points I like in these tips. I have not been voting on people posts because I used to feel my voting power is useless, but this post made me know that voting is not just by power, but agreement.
16: Don’t compare yourself with anyone.
Yes, consistency has been the key to success in life. There is a saying that if you are comparing yourself to others you would never value life. However, as a matter of fact, I have read many posts that have good votes & the quality is not better than what I have been posting. Sometimes I feel a little bad about this when I check my post and after some days I see 0.01 votes. Nevertheless, I find more fun writing and that spirit has been keeping me going.
17: Want help? Just ask.
Asking questions is one thing that has worked for me because when you ask questions you get replies according to different peoples perspectives. My first ask hive is @tykee. I often ask him questions on discord when I need help and he has been helping me a lot.
18: Say YES to Patience
Yes, I think this has been cleared from one of my points above. Consistency has been the key as I said and patience has solved many things, I will try to provide quality and I hope quality gives me quality.
19: Celebrate your time
Above all, the fun, the community and the life on the hive are above the reward. We are here to make friends, know more people and improve our life. Times are meant to be celebrated and I will continue to celebrate my time on the hive.
So, that is it. Thanks for your advises and tips @sidwrites. I hope many new Hivers find this post at the right moment and improve themselves.
Thank you all for reading.
