Been a recent graduate from Delta State polytechnic, I will say the journey was a tough one but was fun as I was not alone in the school, I had people and friends who made my time in school worth while apart from the lectures which was my main goal 🧑🏫

From my National Diploma days to my Higher National Diploma days I had to balance lectures with other school activities and personal life. During my National Diploma (ND) days, I was a course rep for a while before I dropped it because it was so tasking and I could not meet up with my extra curriculum activities in school been MAN O’ WAR which as at that time I enjoyed been a member of because of the brotherhood bond I shared with my colleagues and how been a member taught me to be disciplined and time cautious all the while still been fun. I also dabbled in little politics in my ND, going for Student Rep Council (SRC) at departmental level for mass communication at Yaba college of Technology before I dropped it, was also given a position in MAN O’ WAR as an IO (Information Officer)but still dropped it to focus on school and come out with good grades which I succeeded at.

During my Higher National Diploma (HND), it was hectic all the while fun at the same time because I was working at the same time held various positions in school as my departmental Financial Secretary of Mass Communication and the Auditor for my tribal group FUNS (Federated Union of Ndokwa Students). So doing all this and still finding time to earn money for myself was an adventure “I loved every process of it”. I was self employed so it was convenient for me to mix school and work
Before exams, I always make sure I never miss class because I never forget whatever I hear in class and when I get home I do some light readings and during exams I do “awoko” (reading all through the night) and putting my phone on DND (Do Not Disturb) anytime I was reading and YES all my efforts paid off as I was always an upper class student never dropped into lower. Like the saying goes “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”, I always find time to play, go out and have fun with friends, party while not forgetting that my primary aim in school is to come out with good grades. I always set time for everything, making sure my schedule doesn’t clash with each other and if it does, I forfeit one appointment for the other. Any assignment, project or group work, I made sure not to miss any of them, submit assignments at the right time, actively participate in group work and project, never neglecting anything that had to deal with my academics and if an exco meeting was at the same time with a group project, I always forfeit the exco meeting because my academics was a main priority which led to them calling me lecturer 🤣🤣 as I taught some of my course mates.
During my time in school, I only had two drives:
• COME OUT WITH GOOD GRADES &
• MAKE AN IMPACT
Overall school was educative and fun, especially if you are with the right people. Now am preparing for NYSC (National Youth Services Corp), which means there’s still another phase of adventure before my academic studies come to a halt for now has I plan to go for Masters and maybe PHD.🧑🎓
YEAH!!! I would say going to school was worth it.
