My first mountain cold exposure and thoughts

in #hive-1745789 days ago

Hi guys,

Today I would like to share with you an experience that will be remembered forever. Long story short, I started with a method that gained a lot of popularity online called Wim Hof Method. It consists of mainly breathing exercises and cold exposure. The cold exposure can be from taking cold showers to submerging yourself in cold basins or natural lakes and rivers. So I started by doing the breathing exercises and cold showering. It was great. But then I started to get deeper and while sharing my experiences I saw that my close friends were also doing it. I did not know that but now we had yet another topic to talk about and finally me and my friend @titofit decided to go to our closest mountain - Vitosha and do the cold submersion together. He was doing it for 1 year, so he had some experience beforehand and he had done that in winter time.... Crazy 😱 Well I guess then no worries, we just go with the flow...

We left the car to the side of the road and went deeper into the woords. The weather was great and hot. Just as we wanted it to be.

IMG_20200628_141249.jpg

We were on a higher altitude but nevertheless, we had a path and did not go in the wilderness.

IMG_20200628_163135.jpg

I took my shoes off for the whole hike. It wasn't too rough and certainly doable. It felt amazing on my feet. Grounding is like a self massage of all organs in the body. Incredible experience. I still feel my feet strong and well 2 days after the hike.

IMG_20200629_135252.jpg

The walk was not long but it was full of amazing sightseeings.

IMG_20200629_135156.jpg

IMG_20200629_140712.jpg

The nature is pristine. Even the woods stayed as they were left after storms.

IMG_20200629_140451.jpg

IMG_20200629_135414.jpg

We were going inside the woods enjoying the shadows and also outside in the sun taking tan (well sunburning to be honest. I forgot my sun protection cream).

IMG_20200629_135320.jpg

IMG_20200629_140618.jpg

The Sun was hot!

IMG_20200629_140544.jpg

IMG_20200629_140516.jpg

IMG_20200628_141931.jpg

Finally we reached the river where we intended to take the cold bath.

IMG_20200628_141950.jpg

There was enough space for both of us and if we ducked down on the rocks, we could submerge easily.

IMG_20200629_140018.jpg

There were 2 wood trunks on top of the rivers that facilitated passing over or just chilling on top.

IMG_20200629_140913.jpg

The stream was strong and when we went inside, we could barely hold ourselves in one place. We bathe like 4 times in total but for approximately 1 minute to 2 minutes max. It was refreshing and not taxing on the body as we took our time to recover between the rounds. I will share more savvy pictures at the end of the post where we dive again before going home.

IMG_20200629_135113.jpg

So the journey continued. Of course topless and shoeless!! 😂 I didn't realize that I am going to regret this later. The topless and capless one. The sun was very strong and I got sunburned like crazy.

IMG_20200628_162734.jpg

Here are the shoes. In my hand... or should I say my already red hand... 😐

IMG_20200628_162501.jpg

We headed to one of the huts for lunch and rest. Its name is Edelweiss.

IMG_20200628_154121.jpg

We passed by a region that was very plain and the Sun could torture us directly.

IMG_20200628_160309.jpg

IMG_20200629_134916.jpg

IMG_20200629_135009.jpg

IMG_20200629_134809.jpg

It was a long passage and the green valley was very broad.

IMG_20200628_160315.jpg

We finally reached the morraine fields which meant that we are very close to our destination.

IMG_20200628_160837.jpg

It was very pleasant for me to walk barefoot on those rocks. It gave me very enjoyable sensations.

IMG_20200628_163019.jpg

And we did it! Hut Edelweiss.

IMG_20200628_163117.jpg

Here is how it looked like. Like in fairy tales. Comfortable with sunbeds all over the place. We lunched and spent time laying on those ones waiting for the food to digest a little bit.

IMG_20200628_171444.jpg

Here are some of my friends enjoying themselves on the sunbeds. But it was getting late so we headed back to the stream for one last dip before going home.

Alright I promised to give you a couple more savvy images so here we go:

Here is one of them. I took this one straight from my IG video that my friend's girlfriend shot. If you want to see the full video just click here.

And of course we end up with the best picture of the day 😆 It was an amazing experience and my blood circulation went from cold to burning hot. Today is Monday and unfortunately I had been staying too much under the sun and instead of tempering and becoming like The Rock I have a headache, sunburns, and a bit dizzy. So my advice for all of you folks is: Please use hats and sun protection creams if you are going to the mountain. We should be treating the mountain in the same fashion as going to the beach (in the summer season of course). I have underestimated the circumstances and now have to endure pain that was totally avoidable! With that said, I would like to thank you all for stopping by and wish you a wonderful day and week!

Stay happy, be peaceful!

Namaste

Thank you @phortun :) You rock 🌄😎

No, you rock man :) You even made it to the trending page with this post, congrats! ;)

Wow, wow, wow! 🙌🏻
What a nice post! I am really impressed, good job out there, the shoes in your hand also not to be missed 😃

I tried wimhof breathing method. It was not a pleasant experience for me. I became so conscious of my breathing and starts questioning myself " how to actually breath?" " what is the proper way to breathe?" I am not going to try it anytime sooner again. And you got some stunning landscapes there!

It is normal to feel strange in the beginning. You should lie down in your bed and breathe deeply through your mouth and exhale again though your mouth. Do not breathe quickly. Take your time to breathe in and breathe out. Do it 30 times. It will take you up to 1 minute and 40 seconds. Then exhale and hold your breath for 30 seconds and check your body reaction. After that deep inhale hold for 15 seconds and relax. Feel what is going on! Do not force more rounds if you are not ready! Good luck!

It was amazing day.I hope we go again next time.💪🏻☺.Maybe in the winter too 😌🌬

That would be hardcore! But I am up for the challenge 🤝

Taking cold showers or just finding yourself under the fall of a waterfall in the middle of the mountains is one of the best feelings ever. Not just for you, but for your health and body as well! Great post! :)

Thank you for your kind words and appreciation 🙏♥️

Your photos are very beautiful!

Thank you 💙

Wow! Much beautiful haha! Also, i 100% agree with the fact you feel grounded with the earth with no shoes. I spend 80% of my life not wearing shoes. I hate them!

Completely true! I will start doing this more often! It feels rejuvenating and powerful 💪

That was a wonderful experience. Grated potato on the burns heal the skin quickly.

Thank you for the tip 🙏

This mountain area is wonderful. How many people went with you on this mountain ride?

We were 4 people in total but only the 2 of us went for dip 😁

Great and interesting post:) I am quite curious on the benefits and changes with your friend who has done the cold immersion for a year.

Well you can see how big he is haha, but really, he feels amazing, like Iron Man. He doesn't get sick and he smokes too! The breathing exercises are cleansing him and he does not have any negative effects! 💪❤️💯

it is amazing and inspiring to hear the immune system benefits 👍

Wow, exelente trabajo fotografico, los paisajes son muy buenos, gracias por compartir, te dejo mi voto.

Muchas gracias amigo! Te deseo una muy buena semana adelante!

Nice post. Very very pretty there.

I love hiking in the mountains. It is a place that always brings me peace and makes me very happy.

Amazing photos, @velinov86.

Thanks @wiseagent. Hiking is among the best things you can do because it only requires you to walk. You do not need special gear or physical form 🙏🔝

Wim Hof baby ;)

You had a nice walk over there ;)
I saw @titofit dogs 🐕 this little swimmer ;)

Yes! The little dog also got to experience a bit of cold exposure and did tremble a bit later, but all was good! We had a great time!
