Most of you guys are old timers and a few of you reading this could be new comers on the platform. So, I'm sure most of you guys know that the term whale is used around a lot in here and might have come across a few big ones too.
Did you ever stop to wonder if these whales could actually spray water out of their blowholes?
Reading the above question, you must probably be thinking to yourself:
"Is this guy out of his mind? They are called whales because they hold huge stakes on the platform. It's got nothing to do with them being physical whales."
I would answer your question by saying that there's one whale on the platfrom who can actually spray water from his blowhole like the real whales.
Allow me to introduce you to HiveWhale, a brainchild of one of the top ten witnesses of the platfrom, a multi-talented amazing human being and a good friend of mine @roelandp.
He had started this back in the days of Steem and it was known as SteemWhale back then. Now that Steem is centralized, the whale couldn't stand it there anymore and he had to be moved to Hive.
So, who or what is this HiveWhale we talkin' 'bout?
It's a life sized (18 meters/60 ft) Sperm Whale made of concrete and is placed in the harbour of Harlingen, The Netherlands. It is a part of the 11 Fountains project and was created by the artists Allora and Calzadilla.
Technology has come very far and what Roeland has managed to do is hooked the Hive blockchain tech with this Sperm whale to enable us to remotely get the whale to spray water out of his blowhole.
Yes, you read it right. You, right there... yes you reading this article can make this whale which is situated somewhere far away in the Netherlands spray water from his blowhole and watch it through a live stream.
How do I do it though?
- Send a minimum of 1 or more Hive/HBD to @whalefountain.
- Open https://hivewhale.com and watch the spray getting executed. It has a small delay of 20 seconds after the transaction is made.
- Check your wallet where you'll receive a link with your digital gif image souvenir of the whale spray with your username and block number on it, like the one below.
This was created to demonstrate the power and speed of the decentralized Hive blockchain. The donations made to HiveWhale goes to the an Ocean Preservation Cause says Roeland.
