My Quarantine Challenges


At the time of writing, three weeks of quarantine have passed in Venezuela. My life has been difficult for me like many, especially for not having the freedom to "waste time", it must be wisely distributed. Circulation restrictions and long lines in supermarkets produce anguish and discouragement at the end of the day because they do not reach the time. My challenges in this quarantine are a search for peace, tranquility and preparation for those who will have to face us when we get out of this.

Objective N ° 1. Approach to God

This goal is possibly the simplest, but we always leave the spiritual aside. Laziness rules me. Find relaxing activities that connect you to the world. For example, yoga, tai-chi, prayer to go. The objective is to reduce stress and increase patience.

The Catholic Church celebrates the season of Lent (forty days of Prayer and preparation before Easter (Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus) and this year particularly coincided with the Quarantine by COVID-19. The proposed challenge evokes the beginning of the First Christian communities, to live this time of reflection in the best possible way, in connection with God and neighbor.

It is a paradigm shift because I am not used to doing this in my daily life.

Planning.

  • - Prepare an altar of worship
  • 8:00 - 8:30 am - Listen to the Eucharist on television
  • 4:00 - 4:30 pm - meditate on the word of God every day

Results.

At the beginning of the quarantine I was very distressed, there were many reasons to be, I was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure; my wife with weeks of pregnancy and my mother presents Chronic Allergy with shortness of breath.

These small activities disconnected me from the world, I no longer spent all day watching the news, I only informed myself of what was necessary, especially the measures that the government dictates.

Objectives No. 2 Improve my Health.

Without health it is uphill to meet goals and dreams. As I mentioned at the beginning of March, I was diagnosed with Hypertension at 31 years old. The doctor, in addition to indicating a series of medications that would help me normalize it, also recommended that I change my diet, eliminate salt, and take a 1-hour daily walk. The progression was necessary to record it daily, in order to establish if there is improvement with the treatment. The indication was to take the blood pressure three times a day in three blocks: 7 am, 12 pm and 7 pm.

Due to the quarantine at home, it was necessary to innovate, adjusting the walk to a series of low-impact exercise circuits performed in the comfort of home. The diet has also remained difficult, I can only eat white meat, poultry and fish for now. Goal # 1 helped me stay focused on my goals and purposes, lead a calmer life, especially since stress and worry alter blood pressure measurements.

Planning.

  • 7:00 - 7:05 am - Blood pressure measurement
  • 7:45 am - Taking medication
  • 12:00-12:05 pm Blood pressure measurement
  • 3:45 am - Taking medication
  • 6:00 - 6:30 pm - Carrying out low-impact cardiovascular exercises.
  • 7:00-7:05 pm - Blood pressure measurement

Results.

A decrease in blood pressure was noticed after two weeks of starting the indicated routine and following a healthy diet, giving my wife peace of mind that she must also rest completely due to her risky pregnancy.

Objectives No. 3 Create my Personal Blog, for my Chemistry classes.

This objective has always been in my plans to achieve it, "Graphic Design" has helped me in my work as a teacher, but now I want to take a new approach, open a personal blog and link it to the HIVE platform to advertise it on different social networks . I recently joined Twitter again finding out about many of the contests and I have used the platform to make new friends and advertise the content.

Planning.

  • 2:00 pm - Web search for online classes on personal blogging and marketing.
  • 9:00-10:00 pm - Post classes on my blog and social networks.

Objectives No. 4 Music: Guitar and Singing.

Since I was 11 years old, I have played the cuatro (Musical Instrument of the guitar family) and I have participated as a cuatrista and chorus girl in different piper ensembles. I have always been curious to learn to play the guitar, the similarities with the cuatro are great, so I have been able to make some accompaniments empirically. Now I can spend more time on it. I am using the Guitar Tuna App to learn the chords and make accompaniments of songs that I use to harmonize the activity of Objective No.1

Planning.
  • 10:30 - 11:50 am - Search for chords, songs and rehearsal.

Results.

It has been difficult to meet this objective, due to the need to search for food. But on Thursday 09 at 10:00 pm, I took the initiative after a power cut (lasting up to 2 hours) to play a piece before the altar, for various reasons we did not do the meditation at the proposed time, but at 10 : 00 pm, the only thing that lit us was the candlelight. The result, a moment of peace and tranquility that I would like to repeat.

Objective N ° 5. Perfect my culinary skills.

My passion together with that of my wife is cooking, I will dedicate this time to perfect and learn new recipes. I will also learn to elaborate a series of diets that help me with objective N ° 2. This objective will be carried out on weekends.

Planning.

  • 4:00 - 4:30 pm - Search for recipes on the Web (cookies, cakes, bread y cupcakes), considering the materials to use
  • 5:00-7:00 pm - Preparation of the cooking recipe.


Some of these objectives already present results, others are still in process. We will see its evolution in the coming weeks.
