Estos días México ha destacado en las noticias por el número de defunciones relacionadas con el Covid-19 y uno no puede si no sentir un temor por las contrariedades que ocurren. Paradójicamente la ciudad más afectada estaba por reducir su semáforo a naranja, algo que a la mera hora se cancelo ante las inconsistencias tan evidentes.
These days Mexico has stood out in the news for the number of deaths related to Covid-19. Absurdly, the city most affected was to reduce its measures in the face of contingencies, a reduction that was canceled due to the evident inconsistencies with the situation we live in.
Aún así la señal ya había sido dada y muchas personas que se encontraban bajo resguardo volvieron hoy a sus actividades cotidianas. En mi caso mi empresa ha funcionado bajo un sistema de relevos, esta semana me ha tocado a mi presentarme y he notado el gran incremento de personas en la calle. ¿Será ignorancias, necesidad, o realmente somo tan temerarios como se dice de nosotros?
Even so, order had already been given and many people who were under guard returned today to their daily activities. Es difícil dar una respuesta clara en un país tan diverso como el nuestro. Sin despegar el dedo del renglón, pero queriendo pasar del tema, he decidido mostrarles algunas de las fotografías que tomé el año pasado durante las celebraciones de día de muertos.
It is difficult to give a clear answer in a country as diverse as ours. Without taking my finger off the line, but wanting to move on, I have decided to show you some of the photographs I took last year during the Day of the Dead celebrations.
Este recorrido se llevó acabo en el Bosque de Chapultepec, un parque urbano relativamente cerca del corazón del ciudad. El bosque abarca algunos lagos, monumentos y museos, además del emblemático castillo de Chapultepec que servía como zona de descanso y recreación de los Virreyes de la antigua Nueva España que después pasó a convertirse en México.
This tour took place in Bosque De Chapultepec, an urban park relatively close to the heart of the city. The forest encompasses some lakes, monuments and museums, in addition to the emblematic Chapultepec castle that served as a rest and recreation area for the Viceroys of ancient New Spain, which later became Mexico.
En la entrada podemos encontrar una caratula compuesta por un cráneo decorado al estilo mexicano, recuerda a los cráneos de azúcar que sirven como elementos dentro de las ofrendas realizadas en día de muertos y también como golosinas para los niños. En México les llamamos calaveritas, les dejo una imagen como referencia.
At the entrance we can find a cover made up of a skull decorated in the Mexican style, reminiscent of the sugar skulls that serve as elements within the offerings made on the day of the dead and also as candies for children. In Mexico we call them "calaveritas", I leave an image for reference.
Acompañando a la calaverita y también pasando el marco, nos topamos con la emblemática flor de los muertos, el cempaxóchitl. Antes de la colonización española, ésta planta se asociaba con el sol y como tal era símbolo de vida y muerte, además de guía. Es así que se utilizaba en las ofrendas a los muertos para indicarles el camino hasta la misma.
Accompanying the calaverita and passing the frame, we find the emblematic flower of the dead, the cempaxóchitl. Before Spanish colonization, this plant was associated with the sun and as such was a symbol of life and death, as well as a guide. Thus, it was used in offerings to the dead to show them the way to it.
Después nos encontramos el monumento a los Niños Héroes, decorado con flores y personajes emblemáticos de nuestra historia conformando un doble altar hacia aquellos que según la historia tradicional han dedicado sus vidas a la conformación de la patria.
Then we find the monument to the "Niños Heroes", decorated with flowers and emblematic characters of our history, forming a double altar to those who according to traditional history have dedicated their lives to the formation of the country.
Mas adelante junto al monumento dedicado a los héroes del Escuadrón 201 podemos apreciar la imagen de un xoloitzcuintle, raza canina de más de tres mil años de antigüedad y que en la cultura antigua se le daba estrecha relación con la creación del hombre y se le asignaba la tarea de guiar a los muertos a través del Mictlán.
Further on, next to the monument dedicated to the heroes of the 201 Squadron, we can appreciate the image of a xoloitzcuintle. It belongs to a dog breed of more than three thousand years old and that in ancient culture was closely related to the creation of man and was assigned the task of guiding the dead through Mictlán.
El Mictlán era el inframundo de los antiguos Mexicas, estaba conformado por nueve niveles que los muertos debían cruzar para liberarse de los pesares de la carne, un viaje que duraba cuatro años.
The Mictlán was the underworld of the ancient Mexicas, it was made up of nine levels that the dead had to cross to free themselves from the sorrows of the flesh, a journey that lasted four years.
Al final del viaje, los muertos eran recibidos por el señor del inframundo y de las sombras, quien ayudaba a los muertos a liberarse completamente de los padecimientos del cuerpo.
At the end of the journey, the dead were received by the lord of the underworld and of the shadows, who helped the dead to free themselves completely from the sufferings of the body.
Todo el recorrido en el bosque esta amenizado con luces de los colores, de forma que le entrega bastante misticismo al recorrido.
The entire route in the forest is enlivened with colored lights, so that it gives a lot of mysticism to the route.
En algunos puntos podemos encontrar algunos altares menores además de mariachis tocando música para entregar una experiencia aún mas mexicana.
At some points we can find some minor altars in addition to mariachis playing music to deliver an even more Mexican experience.
Por último algunas ofrendas con representaciones de elementos tradicionales de la cultura mexicana.
Finally, some offerings with representations of traditional elements of Mexican culture.
Como curiosidad al fondo pueden apreciar algunas fotos, se coloraron varias pantallas en el lago, mismas que presentaban fotos (de difuntos) que los mismos visitantes podían solicitar.
As a curiosity in the background you can see some photos, several screens were placed in the lake, which presented photos that the visitors could request.
Para terminar, decirles que estas conmemoraciones se dan en los dos primeros días de Noviembre, aunque la ciudad se adorna desde antes. Espero que para ese entonces la crisis que nos aqueja en todo el mundo ya halla mermado un poco y nos permita participar de forma comunitaria en estas tradiciones, algo que sin duda servirá para desahogar el espíritu de un año con tantas complicaciones.
These commemorations take place in the first two days of November, although the city has been adorned since before. I hope that by then the crisis that afflicts us all over the world has already subsided a bit and allows us to participate in these traditions as a community, something that will undoubtedly serve to vent the spirit of a year with so many complications.
