What kind of weirdos celebrates Christmas in January? Can you imagine something like that? Well imagine no more because I'm about to show you how celebrating Christmas in January looks. Spoiler alert; it's exactly the same as celebrating Christmas in December. Who would have known!
This year we decided to celebrate Christmas in January because my dad has been working two Christmases in a row. He works offshore for four weeks at a time and doesn't really have control over when he's home or when he's out. The shipping company tries to their best extent to make sure people don't work two Christmases in a row but it doesn't always work out.
When this happens you work around it, get creative, and celebrate Christmas in January!
Christmas dinner!
In Norway the prime standard of Christmas dinners are pork ribs og lamb ribs. There's almost a feud between people as to which one is best. Some families just make both because both of those dishes are just amazing. Both dishes pretty much use the same accessories so why not?
But this is Christmas in January so we have to do it different. We had turkey! Our family tradition is to have turkey for new years eve but since no one celebrated new years together this year it was skipped. We all had had the ribs at out different celebrations so it was decided to kinda fuse new years and Christmas. It was a Christmas themed celebration with new years turkey.

This dinner was so good I feel like I could have burst by the end. My dad makes a killer gravy and he didn't disappoint at all. The turkey was slow cooked in the oven for 18 hours so it was real tender and juicy. Combine all of this with a delicious mushroom and bacon stew and you got yourself a perfect meal.
Gifts!
No Christmas without gifts, am I right? As I mentioned we had all celebrated Christmas apart so most of the gifts were already opened. The gifts under the tree this time was mostly gifts from those present alongside some stragglers. Still, when eight people are gifting each other back and forth it turns into a lot.

Me and @emuse had the least amount of gifts to open to open and that's just as good. We don't want gifts unless it's something we've wished for or need. Random things just gets stowed away or sold anyways so what's the point? We didn't gift anything between us this year either and instead booked us a trip to Copenhagen in March.
We did however get a little bit og an haul. We got an awesome carafe which we needed since @emuse broke our last one. We got some board games to have fun with as well as some smaller separate gifts. The big winner was an awesome complete set of kitchen knives from my dad, stepmom and siblings. Made from Japanese 7CR17 stainless steel these bad boys will be assisting us in the kitchen for many years to come.
I didn't give many gifts this Christmas. I'm mostly trying to tone down the amount of gifts I'm both giving and receiving. I keep the gifts to my closest family members. Everyone in extended family have been told to not buy us stuff just to buy stuff and that we won't be giving anything to them either.
I got my sister some clothes that she liked, my brother who just turned 18 got some money and my parents get to choose a restaurant for us to go out to where I'll treat them. I also gifted my grandma a cheese holder that keeps her cheeses fresh in the fridge as well as some cured sausages of different tastes. My uncle whom I celebrated with on Christmas eve got a bottle of wine. That's about it for this year. Keeping it on the small.
Even though this was a different Christmas it was still an awesome one. Everyone had a great time and everyone left happy. We will not be celebrating new years eve next weekend, just so that's said.

@pusen Man, that is so sweet of your family to celebrate Christmas in January because your father had to work during Christmas. I am moved to see such a gesture from the family. What is a festival without having all our loved ones around. I have lost my father but for every good moment in life I miss him and wish he were there.
It meant a lot to him to be able to be with the family finally. I'm sorry that your dad is no longer with us. He must have been a good man. All the best dude.
The greatest gift someone can give and receive is to be together with their family and with their loved ones. Love them, help them, care for them, be kind to them, listen to them, talk to/with them, play with them. Do anything what everyone mutually enjoy. If someone spend quality time with others with this approach, then this is the greatest gift in the world.
I give you some !PIZZA and some !LUV.
Merry Christmas. Every day should be Christmas.
Have a nice day. All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.
So true! I would be perfectly happy with only that to be fair. And some good food to go alongside it. Hope all is good over in Hungary :)
The weather is nowadays frosty. We currently have -8 °C and snow. Just like yesterday. My hands are in pain because of this cold. But other than this, nowadays I am fine. Thank you to the Hive blockchain, I am able to financially get through this winter.
I hope that everything is good in Norway too. I heard that nowadays Norway is one of the happiest countries in the world.
Have a nice day. All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.
Damn, getting cold! We were down to -10 at a point before Christmas but only for a week. Been at and around 0 for the most part since then. It's awesome Hive can sustain you economically or at least help out.
I think Norway is just behind Finland in terms of happiness. We're quite lucky to have the kind of welfare that we have. We pay a lot in taxes but we get every medical expense covered. Makes the people worry less.
@xplosive(4/4) gave you LUV.
At first I thought you were describing your Christmas because you didn't have time before.
You're right I see Christmas for the first time in January!
it's sad that you cannot spend such an important day with your family because you are at work.
My dad handles it pretty well. They celebrate a sort of Christmas on the boat and the steward cooks up a decent Christmas dinner.
I would extend Christmas to the whole year and I am so sorry to have packed everything in these days.
It was nice to be able to celebrate with everyone. Thanks for the curation :)
