Hello friends! I also want to leave my contribution to the Amazing Nature community and for this we are going to study two specimens of tadpoles that belong to two different species: (Pelophylax perezi) the common frog and (Bufo bufo) common European toad, it seemed incredible to me that both species laid their eggs in the same pool of water, this thanks to the rainy days of this month! I want to state that the two individuals were extracted lifeless from the water and I also made sure that they are not species in danger of extinction, so identifying them before throwing them out of the water was a crucial step.🔬🐸

Expectations✍🏻🐸/Expectativas📕🧫

You can not calculate the time that dead organisms have been in the water so I fear that they are decomposing and I can not observe the details, something that caught my attention is that the tadpoles of (Pelophylax perezi) look for the less deep spaces of the puddle, I suppose it is also to warm their organism or get away from predators of which there are many, while the species: (Bufo bufo) I saw that it tried to camouflage itself with the mud and detritus that forms on the surface of the water to the point of almost not seeing anything!✍🏻🧬
https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelophylax_perezi: "they usually grow in somewhat deep ponds in summer or spring"

According to the comparative reference "Wikipedia," this species typically inhabits both temporary and permanent bodies of water, and that the tadpole prefers to swim in areas with vegetation and a certain depth! In my experiment, the opposite was true; there is no vegetation here and less depth, indicating that the species is not very selective when laying its eggs in the water.🧬✍🏻🧫

Scientific data✍🏻🐸/Datos cientificos📕🧫

When the frog is in its "tadpole" phase, the form of gas exchange is carried out through the skin, they absorb oxygen from the water and then it comes out through the "spiracle" hole, the skin of the tadpoles is naked as we see in the photos, provided with spots and colors that become evident as they grow, on the Bufo bufo tadpoles they have characteristics similar to Pelophylax perezi but according to the bibliography: "
https://www.faunaiberica.org/sapo-comun" they only reproduce in spring and their adulthood is understood at the arrival of summer.👨🏻🏫🐸

The difference between the larval stage and the adult stage, to be more specific, tadpoles, is that the latter are exclusively herbivorous; they feed by filtering detritus and plants from the surface of the water. If you look at the place where I threw these two specimens, there are no suspended algae anywhere; on the contrary, it is only mud and slime. Since they have a long digestive system that is longer than their body, they have the ability to filter algae more efficiently. They are capable of filtering water eight times their entire body volume in just one minute. I dissected the food that was in the digestive tract and only found organic material, not algae.🧫🧪

As you can see in tadpoles there begins to be a differentiation between the color pattern in the eyes and their morphology, in our two individuals we see differentiated patterns in both size and color, there are scientific studies that determined that the vision of tadpoles unlike adults is very poor, in fact when there was shadow on the surface of the water they did not move and it is easy to capture them, I suppose that everything is based on the survival mechanism there are thousands or millions of them in a pool of water with a high success rate, depending on good eyesight "is optional" when many reach adulthood.🧪🧫✍🏻

This reference is perfect for seeing the differences between both tadpoles. These photos correspond to the amphibian's tail-body, one darker than the other and the other with more spots. The common toad's tadpole is no more than 3 cm in size, very dark, almost black! This species develops in a month. Now about the common frog: it can grow up to 10 cm; this one here can take months or even a year to complete its adult phase.🐸🧬

Finally, we are going to explain a rather interesting scientific term, the "notochord," which is an elongated structure that extends along the longitudinal axis of the embryo's body and is composed of mesodermal cells. From here, the frog's future body develops. It is cylindrical and the nervous system and vertebrae are formed.✍🏻🧬🐸
