- Today we are going on some walks that connect us to Barcarena, where we can find a natural and urban environment. We are going to explore what we can find that connects us to nature, since due to urban growth, the nature that surrounds us is slowly disappearing. So, let's get our legs ready and start exploring this place.

Specifically, we are in Leceia, located in Barcarena Oeiras, an urban area where you have different options for getting around: train, bus, taxi, or Uber. One of the things that stands out about this area is that it has two nature reserves, one with a cave and the other with the famous Castro de Leceia. There is also a beautiful church and a viewpoint overlooking the famous Tagus River and the Oeiras area.
Castro de Leceia also known as the Chalcolithic settlement of Leceia or Eneolithic Station of Leceia, is an ancient settlement inhabited for approximately 1,000 years, between the end of the Neolithic and Chalcolithic periods. This Castro is connected to the Carrascal caves. It covers an area of 10,000 m² and in 1914 excavations were carried out by Leite de Vasconcellos, where textiles and ceramics were found. The excavation plans are in the Polvora Museum. Since 1963, it has been classified as Portuguese heritage and can only be accessed on guided tours organized by the city council. Otherwise, you can only view this site from a distance.

Another positive aspect of this place is that there is a trail that starts in the center and ends at the viewpoint. It is about 2 kilometers long, starting at the Leceia cave. Unfortunately, access to the cave has been closed to the public due to vandalism and the risk of collapse. For safety reasons, only professionals with a permit are allowed to enter. However, you can find photos of the cave here. After passing through the urban area of Leceia and the Barcarena mountain, you can access this viewpoint, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the river and Oeiras.
Although this area is being lost over time due to human activity, I enjoyed visiting this place. I think it is very beautiful, but I would have liked to have taken a tour of the Castro, where I could have explored the ruins and learned more about the country's past.
