It took me a while to decide to publish a collage again for Let's Make a Collage - A Contest for All Creatives on Hive - Round 253 - ✨80 HIVE in the Prize Pool!✨

Of course, there were several reasons for this, even though—as those who follow me know—I’m a big fan of collages.
Well, first of all, I’d like to mention LMAC vacation this summer—yes, I could have posted some freestyle collages during that time, but I always ran out of time :) I was always busy with something new...
Then, I’ve noticed that the LIL gallery is on a sort of hiatus; in fact, when I check what’s new there, I see that the last 100 photos are mine—my last post was in April—and not everything has been published. When I asked for help on Discord, I saw that things are pretty quiet there, too...
And last but not least, the emergence of AI technologies in practice—where I can actually create much better collages just with a text prompt than anything I’ve tried to do so far. Whether you like it or not, all of this is depressing...

Well, what can we do? Everything is changing—not just the world around us, but we ourselves are being forced to change too, and I’m afraid it’s only going to get worse.

And now for today’s collage.

100% human-made, mine—the base is a photo by @quantumg, and by using photos in LIL, I’ve added my personal take on AI tech, which may or may not be understood.
You see, lately, as ordinary people (me too) have started using this, I’ve gotten the feeling that we’re playing with things we don’t fully understand—things that are already beyond our capacity to comprehend (or maybe it's just me who thinks that, hahaha).
I’m not yet sure if we’re digging our own grave, but something is definitely going to happen to humanity—and very soon. I hope, though, that it’s for the better.

The creation process

I created the collage using Photoshop.
I partially modified the original background photo and added objects from the LIL gallery in layers.

Hope you have fun!

By the way: What I was doing—editing a collage in Photoshop (which took me about 3 hours, including writing this text)—can now easily be done by an AI agent—you just give it links to the images, and if you’re crazy enough 😆, access to your account on an online editor (e.g., Canva or Adobe Cloud), tell it what you’d like to edit, and it’ll be done in a couple of minutes :)
You can also install the AI agent locally...

This is an absurd statement (sorry for being blunt). Your collages are great precisely because they are created by you. It's the person that's interesting, not an arrangement of images in a square. You are an interesting, complex human. Your collages always say something. Sometimes they are grotesque, dissonant. You juxtapose elements that ordinarily don't go together because you are making a statement.

I really don't care what AI has to say about life, or war, or pets. But you are interesting. I know there has been a falloff in participation. But I'm still here, every day, and I'm hoping more people will discover the rather unique pleasure of making a collage.

I really don't care what AI has to say about life

AI is not here to say anything about life. I see it differently. As always, with every “thing,” I think about how I would use it. I used to make collages in elementary school—cut-and-paste projects—and then I started doing them on the computer, printing them out and pasting them together.
A friend of mine, an artist whom I hold in very high regard, said back in 1997 that the computer is an extension of the human brain.
Thirty years have passed, and I’d paraphrase his thought to say that AI is an extension of our brains. I’m speaking from the perspective of a creator because I’m trying to create content, but also from the perspective of a consumer because I consume it.

But you are interesting.

I'm still me. 😎
I always try to use all the “things” currently available to me to make my content easier to understand; that’s why, for this text as well, I’m writing it in my own language, having DeepL translate it, and using Grammarly to tailor it. Hence, it’s better suited to the reader’s language. If I’m being understood better than before, then that’s fine.
