Greetings friends of the Hive and especially to all the users of the Project Hope community.
I know that suddenly some colleagues of the Hope Project community are not very familiar with the content referred to the oil industry and oil engineering, however I consider pertinent to treat this type of aspects but linked to the technological advances, and to continue in this field of oil issues because it is the branch in which I perform better.
Already covered and expressed before you the reasons for choosing this type of topics to be shared with the community of the project hope then let's start with this technology and the improvements it would have in the process of drilling and in the business of the oil industry in general.
It is important to highlight that behind every technological advance there is every industry that develops it, for this case the technology I want to mention and explain to you was developed and presented by the oil services company Schlumberger (SBL), the technology is basically a complex system with innovative operations called NeoSteer at-bit whose main objective in its application is to drill a horizontal well in a single run or a single interval.
What aspects and parameters in drilling can this technology improve?
The NeoSteer technology system in general improves a series of parameters that are the guides in the operations of the directional perforation, among these parameters is the one of being able to have a greater capacity in the dogleg of the perforation pipe as the well is deepened and deviated, although the greater improvement is in increasing the rate of perforation, that is to say in drilling greater lengths or sections in the perforation in the smaller time.
This last parameter makes that the applied technology can minimize the costs associated to the drilling of horizontal wells, since if a well is drilled below the estimated time according to the drilling program, the costs associated to the operating cost rate of the drill would be optimized
What new features did NeoSteer technology come up with?
This technology was mainly developed with the intention of adequately solving the problems that increase operating costs in the drilling process, especially in oil wells that are drilled in a directional manner, especially wells whose trajectories are horizontal.
NeoSteer technology takes advantage of the technological advances obtained in this era in terms of digital technology, using a combination of trajectory control algorithms and data analysis, automatic learning among other factors, and thus provide better planning and execution performance of projects available to drill wells horizontally.
If the trajectory is improved in the drilling of wells, the drilling times will be optimized, so the incorporation of the algorithms that control the trajectory of the drilling can even provide new data to be analyzed in the future for the improvement of other drilling parameters.
In a personal capacity within the technological advances in which I was able to work directly in the branch of well drilling if there were technologies to drill handling drilling parameters in real time, however the tools used mediate drilling parameters in real time but with tools that were placed in the bottom assembly of the directional drill string.
What strikes me powerfully is that now with this technology we are daring to place sensors more and more at the bottom, to the point of being able to place equipment for this technology that is working precisely on the drill bit.
In order to deepen the knowledge about the way this technology works, it is necessary that many of you can visualize how this mechanism works, for this I want to provide the audiovisual resource where it is explained how this technology works
Final considerations
This whole combination environment makes up the NeoSteer at-bit technology that generally helps in the process of horizontal well drilling operations to reduce overall well construction costs.
The technology has already been tested and has been successful in many ways.
The oil company DJ Basin and operator SRC Energy used NeoSteer technology to drill 12 wells that could reach vertical curves and lateral sections in a single run, meaning they could minimize costs associated with drilling time.
In general, oil companies and customers who have employed NeoSteer technology have been able to experience the benefits associated with an increase in ROP (penetration rate) by 20%, saving up to 21 hours in a single well.
Conclusively, to close this chapter, I just want to emphasize what I have already said in previous articles, the technology in the new advances implemented in the oil industry will serve as new tools to consider in order to make the business of hydrocarbon exploitation viable as a fall in the value of the barrel of oil continues to be seen.
