It is possible. Something similar happened in the centuries 16-17 as Spaniards flooded Europe with new gold and silver from America. The consequence was a huge inflation. (Bu not so much as in Venezuela).
But I'm not sure if this asteroid was discovered, or is only a theoretical possibility. Maybe the next big story - investment bubble - will be in the space exploration sector, asteroid mining.
