There is no doubt that desertification is a terrible disaster, our uncontrolled generation of waste, overexploitation and inappropriate land use are already beginning to take a heavy toll. It is time to put aside political issues and remember that land degradation can be neutralized by seeking joint solutions, with strong community participation and cooperation at all levels.
