I think we should all have our own initiative too and contribute more to our personal growth in that aspect!
I totally agree with you, but even if there are many people with leadership skills in a project, the responsibility of the project must be on a particular leader and others collaborate to complement the ideas of that leader, otherwise we run the risk of turning the project in a competition arena.
