In a course I took on experimental statistics, the assigned professor told us, "defining expectations improves your level of learning", I mention this advice that the professor gave us, because certainly and as you comment in your post, people make the mistake of weighting the expectation, above the reality itself. Thank you for sharing these suggestions, all of them are indispensable, but the key is number 9 (Study, perseverance and commitment). Best regards
