Great article on mining and thanks for posting the links to the mining programs. There are lots of scam apps that carry malware. I'm glad that you can mine, I only have a laptop with a 2gb Nvidia card. It would be impossible for me to mine on that thing.

No worries, if I am honest my mining isn't all that profitable but I enjoy it so it isn't too bad. Have to considered doing the BoomPoW BANANO mining on your card? It runs quietly in the background and doesn’t use up much in the way or resources. You get some tasty BAN for your trouble as well.

Hmmm I didn't know about it thank you. What is BANANO used for, though?🤔

It is a meme coin that is based on NANO. Check my article later. Will be something up on Publish0x as they have a writing competition on. It is listed on a few exchanges though so if you weren't fussed about the BAN you could convert it to something else.

Or you can join the Banano Folding@Home team and help fight Coronavirus by proteins folding using your CPU and get some tasty BAN for return.

You can actually just run both together, the BoomPoW doesn't take up that much in the way of resources.

I've been meaning to give it a go. I will take a look later now you have inspired me further. Thanks.

In case you’re interested I did a guide a few weeks back. https://www.publish0x.com/hobbyist-mining/cpugpu-mining-ban-beginners-how-to-guide-boompow-edition-xnovvo?a=xkazY98eJ0

Let me know if you run into any issues. The discord channel are also quite responsive as well.

Thanks, will check it.

This is a great guide to mining these coins. How profitable do you feel it really is? I used to mine but my electricity bill was being hammered. It was fun though.

You've identified the main drawback of any hobby mining. The cost of energy and effective mining rate makes most coins not profitable. That said I think these are some of the most likely coins to break even. I have an RX580 and with that card, running non-stop I could break even. Is it easier to just buy the ETH? Sure, but where is the fun in that. There are a couple other GPU coins out there that will hopefully get better for hobby miners over coming months following algorithm updates either in the pipeline or about to drop (RVN and VTC).
