I didn't hear about this 10x rule, but it really sounds a bit suicidal thing... :) I fully understand the point of setting your goals 10x higher, and I'm doing something similar when I'm setting my long term goals (maybe not 10x, but close to it)...
And I agree that it is necessary to do it like that because it gives you a big motivation to push harder and go out of your limits and comfort zone, which is ALWAYS necessary if you want to succeed...
