I have read a lot about this before, and it is very positive that it is so much easier to publish now. It also makes much more profit go to the author, instead of ending up in the hands of the publisher and everyone else. But, it is also harder, as marketing needs to be done, and you can easily end up being left in the shadows, simply because nobody is interesting in you nor your book, and you do not have a publisher that will fight for sales to go up, as they have no personal interest. But, once again - it is really cool that it has been made much easier to publish your own material!
