RE: parkrun #151: Run for cake

in EXHAUST6 days ago

If I inspire anyone to get fitter then that is amazing. I started running in my mid 40s and it's been a while now, so I would expect to be able to run a long way now. I still don't feel ready for a marathon, but then I would have to do a lot of training for that.

I do these posts to motivate myself, but others seem to enjoy them. Now I do quite enjoy running as a way to get outside and explore.

You have to ease into any form of exercise. The Couch to 5k programme is supposed to be good as you mix walking and running to start with. I was improvising when I started and 1km wore me out back then.

Improvising sounds perfect, I think. When people take on 'off the peg', routines, I often think mix it up a little, if some stuff is enjoyable, build around it, but maybe scale up to the less enjoyable or find alternatives that work for you.

I was a little self deprecating above (it's a British thing, I'm sure) I started to move for longer spells a few months ago, bought one of those watches just to be mindful of my steps or lack thereof, gradually built up to walking more, a return to previous illness restrictions grounded me a little, but I am ready to start over, actually, I think I prefer resume building up again.

I believe this post was meant to appear today, just in time for subconscious pondering before the blank slate of another Monday. Have a fab week Steve!
