Morning Run - Sunday saunter

in EXHAUST3 years ago

I just finished a 13.432km running that lasted about 1hh:19mm:4ss !

Yesterday was quite busy, but I still wanted to do my regular weekly long run. It may rain later, but it was good for running this morning. I decided to try going a little further than other recent runs. It started with the usual route up to and around Fairfield before striking out along the road.

I am not a great fan of running near roads, so I turned off onto the track by Standalone farm that takes me to the Greenway. That did mean climbing the big hill. I struggled near the top and there was 92m total climbing on this run according to Strava. I was okay back on the flat and then I had plenty of downhill running.

I came back through Stotfold and took some back streets there. I saw a few other runners and at least one of them passed me twice going the other way around a similar loop. I also saw a black squirrel at Fairfield.

My podcast listening was interviews with guitarist Paul Gilbert and comedian Barry Cryer.

I have a few chores to do today including cleaning out the chickens and putting the pool away.

Run free and stay well.

Long run! Glad you enjoyed it! Did it end up raining hard the latter half? I just love running in the rain haha

No rain yet, which is good as I have stuff to do outside. The run was hard work, but it's what I needed.

Just curious - 92m total climbing, is that a lot in your perspective? When I'm out running, that amount of climbing would be considered as "flat". Normally it's about 100-300 when I'm out. But we have mountains all around us here, so it's nothing we "think about", it's just the way it is.

There are no mountains around here, but there are still enough small hills to make me work harder. I do try to work those into my runs, but there are places I can run that are pretty flat. The parkrun I do has a bit of a climb so I want to be fit for that. We just have to work with what is available. I'm sure your legs are strong and running on the flat must seem easy.

I've also thought about the effect of uphill running. I do think the muscles in both legs and thighs get strong by this, but I'm unsure if it's beneficial when running flat, as it's another technique. The best is probably the variation, and it's also great to escape from the asphalt sometimes :)

I expect there must be some benefit, but mixing it up is good. Running downhill can be hard on the joints. I do think different different types of leg activity work different muscles, e.g. running, walking, cycling, swimming. Just being active is a good thing.

I have not experience in long running.
Maybe I will try in near future.

It took me a long time to build up to this. You have to develop the stamina. There is no shame in walking when you have to.

I remember the last time I was really enthusiastic about running, my friend always complimented me on my level of endurance, I laughed and told them how it had been a long time coming to that. You just have to be consistent and give yourself a goal to pass each day

People don't realise what goes into achieving some things. I never considered myself a natural runner and spent about 30 years not running anywhere before I decided to do something about my fitness. I still have goals.
