Call me old school, but I believe in being with one partner. And when I say partner, I mean in romantic relationships. I had a conversation with two 16 year old girls, and to say I was shocked is an understatement. Each time they brought a new topic, I ended up widening my eyes just because of their opinions.
So one was diagnosed with an STI, and she opened up to me about her relationship life. She said she had just one serious partner, and he was a married man. I normally don’t judge people, but for this particular 16 year old girl, I expected her to tell me this with some iota of shyness, but you know what I saw? She was so proud of what she was saying.
She didn’t need me to tell her I was surprised to hear that she was dating a married man, so she went ahead and told me her reason behind her action. Are you ready to be shocked too? She said she was having an affair with a married man because that kind of affair doesnt come with commitment.
So all that she was trying to say was that if she dated a single man, she would have to be committed, but with a man who was already married, she could go about doing whatever she wanted.

At this point I was just standing with my arms folded trying to process all this coming from a 16 year old. Not even 18 years old, which is the legal age for my country but 16! I thought the shocking part was done until her friend, who is also her age mate, started talking.
She started by disagreeing with what her friend said, so I was kind of happy that she was at least coming to correct her friend from the kind of perception she has. But here’s where it gets interesting. She told her friend she disagrees that you only have to date a married man if you don’t want to be committed. You can still be in a romantic relationship with one person and be strategic about it.
And by being strategic about it, she meant she could cheat on her partner with other people. At this point, my mind couldn’t even understand what was going on because, to me, why is a 16 year old even in a relationship in the first place? And why is the relationship between her and a married man?
You realize that I started by saying, "Call me old school," right? When I tried telling them it wasn’t right to engage in such acts, they told me they knew. But then it’s only archaic people who see these things as big deals. For them, it’s normal. I wasn’t just sad hearing this, I was also scared. Imagine the kind of troubles you’re putting yourself into at the age of 16, just because you want to follow trends. Sigh.

Thank you
At this point, my pity is already exhausted. I don’t even have pity to pity anyone anymore. Cause cheating is now so normalized, you’d be wondering whether these people have forgotten how deadly STDs are.
As for those two girls, they’d think they are the ones currently seeing the light. It’s okay. It’s fine. Hopefully it’s not too late before they learn the truth.
I don’t why but the latter part of your comment made me laugh
