Last Saturday, I was hanging out with my mom when I realized she was smiling at one particular direction. I’m not really nosey when it comes to these things, especially with my mom because I know she would definitely tell me. But after she turned to look at me, she didn’t tell me anything, which felt weird. Really weird.
My mom is my best friend and she tells me everything. Every single thing. I equally tell her everything too. So that’s why I’m saying it felt weird that she looked back at me without telling me what she was looking at and smiling. After I realized she wasn’t going to say anything, I just looked in that same direction.
And right after I saw what was going on, I understood why she was smiling. So there was this young lady with her daughter dressed in the same cloth. It was actually beautiful. I then asked her if that was why she was smiling and she said yes. So I now asked her why she didn’t say it was beautiful to see a young lady and her
Kid or she could simply just say she wants grandkids from my brothers and I.
She looked at me with her arms folded(meaning serious mode activated) and began talking. My mom made me understand that it would be absolutely beautiful to have grandkids at her age but it doesn’t mean my brothers and I should rush into something we don’t want.
She actually went ahead to give me examples of people we know, who are now going through a lot just because they went through pressure from their parents or the people around them to be something or do something they weren’t ready for.
One thing I realized after my conversation with my best friend is that societal pressure isn’t just limited to the youth, even the aged experience that. And that’s how they begin to transcend that pressure onto their kids, asking them to give them grandkids, in-laws and all that.
I feel like there’s a wave of pressure taking over world at this point. And sometimes you don’t even realize when you’re being affected until you are on that boat heading towards that directions. Heading towards a place you never planned for. And I know you’re probably expecting me to talk about how to deal with this problem. To be honest, I have no idea. When you find the solution, kindly share with me.

This is so true, there's so much pressure in this world that it kinda feels suffocating.
Unfortunately, even I don't have a solution to this and even most times I let myself fall into the pressure, before you know it I am doing something I never really wanted to do in the first place.
I’m sorry about that but don’t worry, we’ll learn a thing or two by the end of the day.
The conversation you shared with your mom, really shows the balance between love, wisdom, and real-life struggles.
You’re right, pressure comes in so many forms, sometimes quietly, and before we know it, we’re carrying expectations that aren’t ours. I think what matters most is awareness, like you’ve done here. Not having all the answers is okay too, sometimes just naming the pressure is the first step to freeing ourselves from it.
Thanks for sharing this, it’s a reminder many of us needed today.
Awareness. That’s very powerful. Being aware most times can help you avoid being pressured by what you see or hear. That’s very true. Thank you!
You're welcome
Nice 👍 and good that your mother understand that you don't need to pressure yourself on something you aren't ready for. Thanks for sharing this, I know it has enlightened many readers too
Oh yes, it’s very important that we don’t feel pressured to do certain things. Thank you
Honestly I really love the relationship you have with your mummy and it's beautiful. And I also love how she support and not putting pressure on you guys that's what we called good and rare parents. I also love how she didn't put society word or pressure on her head.
