Embracing the Power of Self Love

We're living in a time of so much pressure and expectation. Amidst all these, the best thing you can do for yourself is to show love to yourself, commonly termed self-love. Caring for yourself at a time like this may be the remedy to your pain or hurt be it emotionally, mentally, physically or spiritually. Self-love empowers us to embrace our true selves and cultivate inner peace. Through this, we discover how to thrive in every aspect of our lives.

In this write-up, I seek to delve into ways you can love yourself.
One of the ways we can do this is by first recognizing your worth. You have to embrace your worth as an individual. You have to believe that you are an individual worthy of love and respect. You have to let go of criticizing yourself and accept who you are. You have to understand that like every human being, you have weaknesses and flaws, and there's no need to beat yourself up about it but rather you have to work on it. By doing this, you are empowered to confidently pursue your dreams and goals.

Another way you can take care of yourself is by taking good care of your health and well-being. Here, you prioritize your mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health through a series of healthcare practices.

This is where you nourish your body with good foods, engage in regular exercises and take time off the world to relax and cool off all the heat; whether it's by going to the beach to listen to the calmness of the breeze, or travelling to a resort faraway away from too many people. Through this, you replenish your energy and cultivate a greater sense of balance with which you are ready to face the world again.

The last way to practice self-care I'd talk about is by setting boundaries. To effectively practice self-care, you have to set healthy boundaries. Boundaries are necessary in any kind of relationship; be it friendships, romantic relationships or mere acquaintances. This way, you can put your needs, values and well-being first. Sometimes, you need to be a little selfish, and setting healthy boundaries makes that possible. You have to recognize your limits and honour them without guilt or shame.

We're in a world that seeks external validation and perfectionism. Self-love is the best antidote which reminds us of our worth; that we also are deserving of love and respect.
