The case is otherwise, far from the good things I would have loved to share. This generation is characterised by a lot; both positive and negative. Such as, a kind of knowledge/ideology they possess, hyperactivity, easy flow with technology and a whole lot of others. One aspect stands tall that many, especially the older generation cohesively agree on; the decline in morality.
When we say “Times have changed,” did that really change or was it the people that changed? I feel this generation is plagued with the instruments presented by the modern world which should have been to their advantage but has turned out otherwise. But who is to blame, the resources meant to do us well or the generation that misused the privilege?
I feel sad and angry, and a kind of fear grips me when I reminisce on what this generation has become. You look at the physical world and down to the digital media, and anyone with a good heart and conscience will realise that there is a moral decline. What is private has turned public, the sacred to unholy, the shameful things are applauded, things that would be said or done hidden are now very much done in the open.
Not saying that some of these things were not in place with the former generations. There is however a surge in it today. One thing, okay two things that hit my heart hard when I look at this generation and their actions is the high rising case of online fraud called “yahoo” and prostitution called “hookups.”
We can see the problem even from how they managed to create an euphemism for things that are shameful and detested. What beats me more is how these things which should be spat upon are highly and slowly camouflaging into society, becoming a norm. When things like this are not addressed for what they are, then we risk many others getting involved.
Teenagers today do things that I can say the older generation dreaded to do when at such an age. Even if these things were done, they were done secretly and not openly. Gone were the days when stealing or fraud was talked about in the dark. You look around today you will find it applauded. Likewise with prostitution, at least you don't find young girls so much in it and proudly proclaiming it.
Are the older generation out of this equation? No. Some are very involved in these things too. Either as actors or watchers; who do not give caution or rebuke concerning these things. I heard of a woman in my area who was supporting her son by saying he should be allowed to continue in his fraud (yahoo). Well, he was using that money to serve the family.
I see cases of ladies who slowly entered into prostitution. They showed some of the signs which were ignored and today they are into it. We see morality go down the drain today. This is also reflected in aspects like dressing sense, values and character. I hope we find a way to fix these issues because they are getting out of hand. As much as we complain we can do well to make efforts in reshaping them, though that mostly seems inconsequential.
