There has been a dreadful sense of entering adulthood. We're often warned of the looming specter of bills and responsibilities. It has even been sung in a very popular Nigerian song entitled: Adulthood na scam.
In the song the singer portrays the responsibilities adults have to face, they have to hustle everyday to bring something to the table, no one else cares to help them in their finances, no one asks if you've eaten anything, nobody dashes you money, not having money is your own problem as an adult, then he concludes the whole song with the phrase: Adulthood na scam!!!
Children who expresses a desire to grow up are often warned that being an adult comes with a lot of heartaches, making them to believe that everything they hear adults enjoy is just a scam.
Yes, the responsibilities of adulthood are often sung as a song, no one talks about the good side. But amidst the hustle and bustle of this grown-up world, there are hidden gems waiting to be unearthed.
Childhood is a time to receive guidance from parents on how to be a responsible adult, during adulthood, we finally have the chance to prove that your parents have done something nice on you.
It's not just about the bills, for me it's:
I get to make my own choices which can be fun, but of course making sure it's the right one
Engage in leisure activities like reading, playing music, or sports.
Building up myself in ways I desire for myself
Contribute to our communities perhaps through our career
Helping people in sincere ways with increased abilities
Continuously learning and growing intellectually, personally and financially
I get to decide where I want to travel to, explore and enjoy the experience
There are a lot more I can do as an adult that I enjoy so much. I even enjoy helping a child with advice or helping them do their homework, all these makes me feel proud of myself. It's true I'm still an early adult but I hope to keep exploring the joys of adulthood and making the best out of it!
As for the question, Is adulthood a scam? No adulthood no really be scam, the responsibilities makes one a better person. Yes life is hard for adults but each overcoming each challenges makes us better each day.

Of course, children will always be warned about adulthood especially when they are always in a hurry to grow up but then the thing is some parts about adulthood like you’ve said especially being able to make choices for yourself will always be sweet

Adulthood is sweet it is bills that are spoiling it lol 😆 I cherish and enjoy the freedom that comes with it, life generally is a struggle but at least as an adult one is in charge of one's life.
Truthfully there are a lot of privileges and benefits attached to be an adult but the reason why people feel so burdened by it is due to the responsibility attached to it. Moreover being adult means you get to be solely responsible for every wrong choices you make and most times the consequences are devastating which might seem like a very huge price to pay for having the freewill to make your decisions.
